My little revelations :)

Recommended Posts

OK, so I was banded Oct. 1, and after getting over the initial surgery ouchies, I am feeling pretty darn good! I am sticking to my after surgery diet and I've lost 10lbs(4 I gained during surgery and 6 of my own) and although I had hoped to be one of the speed demon losers...I am happy. So my revelations. I went to Sam' club with my hubbie and as I walked down the aisles I had his overwhelming feeling that I needed to eat and buy food, I thought I was going to hyperventilate seriously. I thought "OMG, how can I be hungry, it's too soon!" So I went to the bathroom, seperating myself and I realized, I wasn't hungry at all. I waited, and truly was grateful to myself for taking the time to think about it and listen to my body...it wasn't hungry, my mind was. Revelation #1, huge for me. The next came Saturday night when my belly was grumbling, growling, making noise my kids heard across the room. I would've normally jumped up and got a snack, but again I just listened and asked myself if I was truly hungry...I wasn't. I grabbed a glass of Water and sat sipping in my newfound glory...even if no one else knew. Revelation #2. Great feeling, just thought I'd share.

That's great! It can be difficult to seperate true hunger from "head hunger". That's awsome that you can do that. I think taking yourself away from the food at sam's for a bit was a great idea. You could apply the same idea at a party, stay away from the table full of food. Congrats on starting your journey!

Head hunger and boredom eating are tough. Its weird to not be physically hungry, but you think you need food. That is going to be the toughest obstical for me. I've done pretty good so far. I have done a ton of grocery shopping and cooking to get used to being around food that I don't need to eat. Its been helpful and surprising. Ive done well. Tomorrow onto soft foods. I hope I can keep up the good work.

Thanks for the responses. Just like everything else in life, I'm taking this one day at a time and hoping to learn more about myself along the way! I too have been grocery shopping and find myself make better choices for my family now. It's amazing what you don't buy when you are not hungry!! Good luck to you both also, I look forward to reading more!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
