December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm official! Surgery was Monday the 6th. It went well, and everyone kept saying how well I was doing. I ended up staying in the hospital two nights, because I had a hiatal hernia and a ventral hernia repaired while they were doing the band. I figured while they were under the hood they may as well do a tune up... ;) Everything was by the book, and I'm glad to finally be on this side of the surgery room.

I'm home now, and just getting started on my post-op recovery. All things considered, I feel pretty good, but my entire stomach area is a mess. A word of caution for anyone who will have the same hernia repairs I did: Counting the band, I have 13 incision sites. Guess my days as an underwear model are over... :)

Hope other December bandsters are all doing well. The journey continues...

Dave

I tried to put the unjury in broth and it was gross, I probably got it too hot hahaha. So i gave up.

I strained some Campbell's chicken noodle Soup today, that actually really hit the spot.

Also putting sugar free kool-aid in those Isopure drinks helps a ton! they actually taste pretty good.

Sal thats great news, i hope it maintains for your appt...

OMG i finally opened one of the packs of unjury i got in the sample pack, i made orange drink from Crystal Light and poured the unflavored Unjury in it, and OMG what in the world was that? it smelled sooo bad and unflavored my behind it tasted like crap, im sorry that was more gross then the Atkins shake i was drinking, i just needed more Protein and thought hey its unflavored, NEVER AGAIN has anyone else tried this?? and the smell was puktred if thats a word...LOL if i dont get control of these shakes i am getting from lack of food i dont know what will happen, its the shakes you get when your surgar is below 70 i am not diabetic but i am insulin resistant cause of pcos and i dont like feeling like this, i am so glad i go to the Dr for some pre-op testing on Friday

Yeah I tried the unflavored Unjury in my wyler's drink today, only put in like 1/4 of the packet or not even in a 32 oz bottle. OMG,, I agree that is hard to drink. I am going to try again maybe with a little less and see if I can get the bottle down. I need to figure out something for the clear liquid part.

On a good note, I got a call back from the coordinator and she said she was going to submit my papers today. I hope they approve quickly, so I can get the surgery this month.

It's Thursday at 4am. I'm sure I'll be just like this tomorrow as I'm to be banded on Friday. Why do we work ourselves up so much? Today I have to do all liquids. My doctor did not put me on an all liquid diet prior to today. I am thankful for that but hope that it doesn't interfere with the actual surgery.

This week has really crawled by for me but I'm sure today will be over before I know it.

I, too, couldn't handle the unflavored Unjury. I did find something good to do with the strawberry Unjury. I mixed it with Crystal Light lemonade to make strawberry lemonade. It was very good and a nice break from all of the chocolate and vanilla shakes I was drinking.

I've tried the chocolate unjury ad with milk, it tastes like chocolate milk, I did not taste any Protein flavor, which is excellent, so that is probably the one I will be drinking the most of. I plan on trying to drink the vanilla one for luch today (and see if I am able to handle it, and not having lunch so I can know what to expect on the pre op diet)

I am going to have to get some SF kool aid and try that with the Isopure, because I can't stand the isopure, so the clear liquid part is looking to be a real challange. Is it the powder or the already liquid kool aid that we should try?

I dont get it, so many people have said there is no taste what so ever with the unflavored, and thank gawd i am not the only one who noticed the foul smell and taste...i dont see me ordering from them any longer which stinks cause soooo many people said it was awesome...i understand how the chocolate one taste just like chocolate milk, but i hate milk, BLECK so thats why the Alpine Punch Isopure is the only one that is not making me sick, and will come in handy for after surgery since all you can do is sip, well thats all i can do with the isopure, now with the Atkins shake i have to gulp it to get it down fast which i will have a problem with after surgery, i meet with the Dr tomorrow after my pre0op testing and i will discuss with them the issues i am having with these milky products BLECK cause i HAVE to get the Protein in...kinda worried now

I can tell you that I didn't have much trouble getting the Protein Shakes down before surgery but now that I am banded I am having some trouble getting it all in. I do feel some restriction right now (it may be swelling) but where I used to drink a 10 oz shake in about 10 minutes or so, now I drink an 8 oz shake and take about 30-45 minutes to get it down. Since you will be on liquids after surgery you will definately need to find a couple of Protein Drinks that you can tolerate (trust me, you will need some variety).

Good luck!

Eeek I woke up today and I feel a little sick, praying I don't get a cold! Don't wanna push this off again agh.

I like the Myoplex lite ones, they taste good. But I'm with you on I'm just tired of the milky flavor. I need to get more Isopure. I was not hungry at all after finishing the 40g isopure. Yea, def try putting kool aid in it. or I'm sure crystal lite would do the same.

OMG, yay! I was approved, and I got a date! They only had the 20th and the 29th open. Unfortunately I don't think I would be able to get off from work in 11 days notice, they actually want 4 weeks, but I assume surgery will be different, so I chose the 29th. Although, I may talk to my supervisor today and see if I can do the 20th.

I am so happy!! I can't wait, I am going to start 2011 on a whole new leaf. Goodbye old me!

uuuuggggghhhhhhhh........is it just me that feels like someone stripped me of my willpower? I have totally gone off the 500 cal/day diet (5 HMR shakes) yesterday and today. my last preop checkup b4 surgery on the 20th is on monday and if I dont lose at least a couple pounds (last weigh in was 11/23) they are going to know I havent been doing the HMR strictly.....its just sooooooooo hard to even sit up consuming a mere 500 cals a day (I have missed two days of classes cuz my energy is so low), and those HMR shakes really get tiring/sickining after awhile.....

good for you guys for not giving in to your hunger pangs....I don't know what the hell is wrong with me...hopefuly I can get down to business for the next 5 days cuz when I stick to it, the weight does come off.....I am such a strong person, but when it comes to food, I am easily defeated.....and when I get defeated...I have trouble not beating myself up about it......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
