It doesn't feel like i'm loosing weight as fast as everyone on here. Since May I've only lost 24 lbs. I've completely stopped drinking anything with calories in it.. was eating only like three lean cuisines a day. for the past two weeks i cut myself down to 500ish calories but it still feels very slow. Any suggestions?

Hi Shannon! I know your weight loss seems slow, but you're losing about a pound a week which is where they want you! Judging from what you're eating, I'm thinking you aren't eating enough! You need about 1000 calories a day or your body will think it's starving. Lean Cuisines contain alot of sodium, so three of those a day may not be the best idea. Do you exercise? Exercising has been my lifesaver. My weight loss really picked up when I started exercising. Even if you don't start out doing alot, if you're moving, it'll help. Good luck Shannon! :puke:

You may not be getting enough calories. If your body thinks you are starving then it hangs onto your fat reserve to protect you.

My advice, get off the Lean Cuisines. They aren't teaching you how to get in proper nutrition by cooking for yourself.

You should probably get in 1200 nutritional calories a day, with good sources of lean Protein and moderate your carbs by choosing vegetables and fruit first and then whole grains.

Your exercise should also be an integral part of your journey to a better health lifestyle!

I don't track anything, but think I have to stay between 800-1000 calories for weight to drop.

I agree with tossing the Lean Cuisines. It sounds like time to mix up the diet a bit.

To get my Protein up where it should be I have to drink the shakes. (note to self: you have been slacking here)

Try some chili with cheese on it. yum

Yogurt and smoothies. yum

Cottage cheese with fruit. yum

chunky style Soups

Also make sure you are getting enough protein...i agree the Lean Cuisines may not be the best thing to eat for all meals. maybe not bad once in a while in a pinch, but not for all meals. throw in a Protein Shake here and there and it may help as well!! GOOD LUCK!! :puke:

I would use lean cuisines about 3x a week, vs. 3x a day. They are high in sodium and usually high in carbs as well. You probably do need to increase your caloric intake, but make sure you pay attention to carb counts. It really makes a difference! Are you restricted yet? I am still working towards restriction...I feel I'm partially there. My band definitely lets me know not to eat certain things, although I feel I can still eat too much of other things. I am happy with my weight loss, but feel it has REALLY slowed down. Third fill is Oct 18 and I'm hoping for loss to pick up after that one!!!

I agree that you probably need to focus on getting more bang for your nutritional buck. Lean Cuisines just don't give your body enough of what it needs. Not just for weight loss purposes, but for long-term health.

In your shoes, I'd track my intake (and output--exercise) on Fitday.com to see where I was coming in, in terms of protein/carb/fat, etc. I think you will be shocked to see the gap between what you need and what you are getting.

Once you know where you stand, you can start tweaking.

I know that Lean Cuisines offer the benefit of ...well, a sort of mindlessness that can be freeing. But you can achieve the same sort of mindlessness if you have a basic "formula" for what you eat. My formula is 2-3 ounces of Protein (fish, poultry, lean beef or pork, fat-free cottage cheese, yogurt plus Protein Powder, legumes...) + 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggies for each meal. I have a Protein shake in the early morning and late evening, and if I am hungry between meals, I have fruit, veggies, an ounce of cheese, or a bit more protein.

Very formulaic, but it meets my body's needs (though I take a good quality bariatric Multivitamin as insurance), and requires almost no thought. But it still provides lots of variety--and is flexible enough that I can eat anywhere without difficulty.

Betsy B you have been so successful! I am wondering if you know what your calorie count is per day? How many calories & protein are your shakes in the morning/evening?

Hi - It sounds like you might be eating too little - I know that sounds crazy - but you do need to eat! I also felt like everyone else was losing weight much faster than I was, but you know what - you are still 24 pounds thinner than you were in May and that is a great accomplishment!!! I am 2 1/2 years out of banding and I feel great and have lost 80 pounds, don't think it is a race to beat the other people, you are doing this for you - and 24 pounds is wonderful - congratulations!!!

I had my surgery on June 25, 2010 and I have lost 23 lbs. That computes to about 1.6 lbs a week. That is nothing to sneeze at! Maybe we are like the Turtle. Slow and sure, but we will win the race in the end. Good Luck!!

Thank you everyone. I signed up for sparkpeople.com and it said I wasn't eating enought (like everyone else said lol ) i also wasn't getting enough of EVERYTHING like fats.. proteins.. ect. I also noticed I was barely drinking any Water and someone told me that is bad and could affect weight loss too - so I'm trying to bump it up. Good luck and congratulations to everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
