MountainMama 5 Posted October 10, 2010 Ladies, how many of you have experienced missed periods with your rapid weight loss? I finally caved and took a pregnancy test today, which was negative thank goodness, because I was nine days late on my period. I think my husband was going to :puke: I am normally very regular so I knew something wasnt Kosher. I know that the rapid weight loss can cause the missed periods because of hormonal shifts, I was just wondering if it is pretty common side effect and alot of you have had it happen as well. trishfish 1 Posted October 10, 2010 i'll skip my period for two months and then have my period for 3 straight weeks....my obgyn says its very normal. I'm thankful that I did have that long cycle because she decided to chck my ovaries and stuff to make sure everything was ok. during that she found something not too good (not related to long period) and so now I am havung surgery in a few weeks. she said I would not have ever known I had this. stefaniwg 172 Posted October 10, 2010 This is becoming pretty common for me. The first month post op I was regular. The next month I was 3 days late and this past month I was 5 days late. I too have always been regular. I was worried that I was pregnant too and took a test this past month and it was a negative. Freaked me out! My husband is just enjoying those few extra days!! lol I am thinking that it must be a normal side effect of the rapid weight loss.
BetsyB 9 Posted October 10, 2010 Weight loss can wreak havoc with hormones! Body fat is mildly estrogenic, and as it's lost, serum estrogen levels fluctuate. So it's not unusual to miss periods. (Still, I think it's always a good idea to test to be sure!)
Tara201 2 Posted October 10, 2010 I was due about 5 days after being banded...never did get it that month...But now that I think of it...that was most likely due to the surgery itself? This month back to normal. So I guess I'll see in time 1 Thundarump reacted to this
Manda87 3 Posted October 10, 2010 I wish I could miss a period or two. Mine seem to be longer, and I seem to spot more. Ugh. :puke:
sixtythreenova 0 Posted October 11, 2010 I was regular month one post surgery... now missed for two months with no signs or symptoms of it coming any time soon.... I even began having hot flashes for several weeks. Not sure if it's weight loss or menopause?? :puke:
toodypie 0 Posted October 11, 2010 I also used to be regular until I was banded. Now I've skipped one and had a light one...

healthyby40 0 Posted October 11, 2010 I'm currently 3 weeks late and no sign of it. I too took a pregnancy test, even though my hubby had a vasectomy. Hey, stranger things have happened! It was negative but I'm still freaking out daily over this. I've never had a problem and have always been on schedule, to the day! Glad to hear other people are experiencing this, so maybe I can stop freaking out over it!
ChreeMiriah 11 Posted May 27, 2023 I have only had one period in 6 months since my surgery, with two more follow up emergency surgeries due to sleeve complications. Anyone experience this?
pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted May 30, 2023 My period has been irregular since my procedure. I'll get it for a few months and then it will stop again. I've been told this is fairly normal.
