Can't rush things!! :-(

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon fellow lap bandsters,Before my surgery, I was 303 lbs. I got down to 290 before I started the liquid diet. Pre-surgery weight was 279 lbs. First appointment post surgical weight was 272 lbs. Does that seem right? I mean I have heard of stories of people saying that they lost 10 - 13 lbs the first week after surgery. This wasn't the case for me. I'm not giving up so soon but i guess I was expecting more. :)

As you stated "Can't rush things". Congrats on the weight that you lost pre-surgery. Good job. The time after surgery is to heal, follow your doc's orders as far as nutritional intake and exercise.

Just my 2 cents, but I think that first 20lbs or so comes off the fastest and then the body kind of levels out. If you are taking off and average of 1-2lbs a week, then you are the norm. Take a breath....relax....eat healthy......follow the orders you doc expects and you should be on the road to a steady and healthy weightloss. Good luck!

well you are down 7 pounds since surgery but you are down a total of 31 all together which is awesome.. the slower the better.. I know we all want it to just go away me being the same but set a 1-3 month goal not just a post surgery goal. Your body need to recover to it will store a little to aid in that and once you are recovered totally you will shed the pounds.. Keep up the good work

here's my two cents..I lost 10 lbs the first week after surgery then didn't lose any in the next two weeks and then on the 4th week I lost 3 lbs, total of 13 lbs so far. I was 277 on the day of my surgery I am now 264. I am going to stay positive, it's 13 lbs off that hasn't come back and will hopefully stay off not like before when I'd take of 5 and put 5 back on the very next week. It's a little over a 10 lb sack of potatoes I'm not carrying around anymore! Stay positive..let's make this all worth it and lose weight!!!

Carmen,

That's nice. I can't wait til I'm in the 260s. I'm right there but I'm waiting on the scale to jump. Since I've been on mushies, the scale is not moving. I'm down to 271. Hopefully I will see 268/9 this weekend.

You know it's funny, I lost 10 lbs pretty quick and then slowed and plateaued. When I brought in the mushy foods I stopped losing and actually gained a little after going to solids. I am now losing a pretty steady 2 lbs a week. Just give yourself a chance. Every little bit you lose is a good thing. Slow and steady wins the race!!!

Best of luck and keep your chin up and dont give up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
