Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!

Recommended Posts

cool, you doing good?

I am doing better, it's a day to day thing. I had 4 weeks off after surgery and now that I have gone back to work it is harder. at home i was able to plan my meals and stay focused on eating 3 small meals and some snacking and entertained myself in between with tv, homework, or whatever...now that i am back at work. my job is pretty boring so I find myself thinking of food more often. I am really interested in seeing how you do from the beginning, i had a bad couple of weeks right after my surgery and regretted for a bit but now i'm better and as long as i am losing weight I think i will continue to feel good about my decision. I had the surgery so I wouldn't have to feel like I was always on a diet and so far so good I am eating things now that I would not allow myself to eat before I had the band and I am losing weight still. sometimes get those old feelings of guilt back when i eat a sweet but I am eating way less then before so it's not so bad to eat what i want. sorry to go on, i think this site is so theraputic for me to get these thoughts out of my head even if no one reads them LOL...keep me posted on your journey...

So im on day one of the required 3 day clear liquid diet. Its awful...i have a horrible headache..that I cant take anything for...I have heartburn...from Jello and broth??wth? I started my TOM today, and have had loose bm....and still have to cook for my family while im starving..

Did anyone else do the 3 day clears before surgery? Any survival tips? does it get better?

I know its worth it but...just needed to vent!

You are lucky. I am on day two of a 10 day liquid diet. I have a 16 year old son who I have to cook for so this is going to be interesting. I WISH I only had to do three days! Hang in there!

Not be a witch but at 16 he can look after himself for a couple weeks. For Breakfast buy him some Cereal, or the low fat jimmy dean Breakfast sandwiches. Some schools even have breakfast kids can buy. For dinner buys some judious frozen meals and make a couple meals that can be frozen into individual portions. He can heat them up and be fine. As long as you have food available to him I don't see a reason why you have to cook elaborate meals while on a liquid diet.

When I was 11 and my sister 16 our father died unexpectedly which sent my mother into a deep depression. She did not cook for 6 months (yes 6 months). She did however continue to go grocery shopping. We cooked for ourselves and made it through; so two weeks is not that bad.

I hear ya-he can be helping himself out more especially at 16-he plays football so it seems like he is ALWAYS hungry (which does not help me) I just need to decide that I can do this because food is always going to be around and I am going to need to deal with that. I am a single mom so I do most of the cooking unfortunately.

Thanks for the suggestions-we are both going to be eating healthier from here on in!

Hope you are doing well with your journey!

I know what you mean about everyone saying how wonderful it is..maybe they've been living with it a lot longer than me and have forgotten how bad it is at the beginning. I KNOW i need to watch the sweets!!! thanks for the reminder. I haven't gone into the chat rooms yet. but if you would ever like to chat my yahoo e-mail is jolly.carmen@yahoo.com

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
