New here- few question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys/gals! I just found this site the other day and I've learned a lot from it. I have a few questions for ya.

I'm at 211 lbs now. I had my daughter 9 months ago (was 252 at 9 mo, I gained 95 lbs during pregnancy) and before I got pregnant I was down to 160. I was taking phentermine for approx 8 months before getting pregnant and I did lose weight. However, that does not work for me anymore.

So my question is... am I wasting my time even trying to get this approved? Ive been overweight my entore adult life but besides being 9 mo pregnant I was never at 40.

Do they look for you to be at 40 for 2 years? How do they track your weight? I mean I dont even know how much I weighed 2 years ago.

If I have to self pay, I will have to take a loan out and it will be tough to pay back (Im a social worker) but I will be able to do it. So is it worth it?

P.S I have Aetna insurance.

Thanks so much! Id appreciate any feedback

Only you can answer the question of "is it worth it". Getting insurance approval may be tough, depending on your insurance, but I've known banded people who only struggled with 60 pounds...my surgeon being one. I wish the band had been available when I was 16 years old and 180 pounds with a weight that was steadily climbing each year and an out of control appetite.

I say see if it is covered by your insurance and see if you can get approved. Good Luck to you. It really is worth it. I was banded on 09/08 and have not had any major problems. Just minor gas pain and normal healing after the procedure. I was 215 and am now very close to getting under 190. I'm looking very forward to being thin and healthy. Take care and again, good luck.

jaffa just because you had a bad experience doesnt mean everyone will. Your the one in a million, don't discourage her from making her own decision.

Well last time i checked this is a LAP BAND talk site, and its for supportive people, not people spamming every thread on not to choose the band, because really most everyone will not have that experience like you, and most haven't, there is exceptions to the rule, but like we know this is an way for us to get healthier and sometimes we work past when others have had a few bad experiences compared to the thousands of people on here who are leading amazing, healthy lives now. So be helpful, kind, or supportive. If not you might as well leave.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
