What did the surgeon say? Have you consulted someone who is educated in these things? This board is great for support and food ideas, but when you need professional advice, this isn't the place for it. Sorry to say it, but you're only gonna get opinions here.

I had a peptic ulcer prior to banding. The surgeon discovered it on my pre-op EGD. I was treated with Nexium for 3 weeks and then had a repeat EGD. The ulcer was healed and they scheduled my surgery. I haven't had any ulcers since banding. My doctor said that it was good that I found out about the ulcer before banding, that it's much easier to treat that way.

I had H. Pylori infection a few years prior to my surgery and was treated. Never had ulcers that I know of and the tummy troubles went away with treatment. I wouldn't think that it would be an absolute no on having the surgery as long as your stomach is healthy at the time of your surgery. Just check with your doctor. Good luck!

You name it I have had it .. h-pylori, ulcers, bleeding ulcers, and have been on Protonix 40mg twice a day (a high dose) for 3 years. I was still a candidate for the band. While he was in there he fixed "the largest hiatal hernia he had ever seen" and apparently due to all my stomach issue the bottom portion of my esophagus had eroded away so he re-inforced it with mesh. He had to leave me on the table and get consents signed from my moher in the waiting area as he was definately not prepared for what he found. But I still came out with a band !

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
