Anyone having hair loss?

Recommended Posts

I am four months post banding and have been losing my hair by the handful the last few weeks. I had a fill yesterday and my doctor said I need to take Biotin supplements.

I have lost 34 lbs since my banding on May 26th!

I am having significant Hair loss as well, thank God I had really thick hair to begin with. I have talked to a few physicians about this and generally we are losing the hair that is in the dormant state because of a extreme diet change and the stress from the surgery. We are going to stop shedding about 6 months post op and after another 6 months our hair should be back to normal! Make sure you take your daily Vitamin, and don't wear your hair up a lot, but other than that nothing much will really help.

MY doctor also told me to use olive oil Shampoo and take fish oil. He thinks it is also due to the fact that I don't eat much fat at all.

I too have very think hair!

I am not yet post op but when reading the guidelines book i was given, it says in there that you may lose your hair if you arent taking in enough protein... Not sure if that will help you but just a thought...

My surgery was June 1st and I have lost about 1/2 of my hair.

I've taken Biotin all along and it doesn't really do anything. I also use the Biotin Shampoo, but I'm still short half my hair.

I had thin hair to begin with, so now I look like a chemo patient, enough that I scared my grand daughter.

I went to a dermatologist and he said it will start to grow again in 4 to 6 months. I had 2 surgeries 1 month apart, so he says that was too stressful for my body. I hope it comes back. In the meantime, I'm getting used to hats, and bought a wig, but haven't had the guts to wear it yet.

The loss is from diet change and surgery stress. I have had several surgerys over the years and never had this happen, so I am going with the diet change and the main factor. I take Boiten and my hair still came out, just not real bad. The Protein is always mentioned when this is talked about but I don't if it's because we now get more than we did or less??? It started about 4 months after surgery and lasted about 3 months. My bald spot is almost gone :cursing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
