10 Days Post Op and Already on Soft Foods

Recommended Posts

I'm reading a lot of posts on here and I see people that are on liquids/pureed for a lot longer than my doc had me on it... I'm only 10 days post op and I'm already on soft foods. I feel like maybe he had me progress too soon... Nothing gets stuck and I feel like I could eat a lot more than my 1/4 C 3 times a day, but I don't. Should I go back on liquids?

I am having the same problem. My restriction that was wonderful for the first week is starting to decrease. My surgeon told me that when I'm ready for my first fill which is NOv. 1st, I'll feel like I have to restriction at all. WTH??

I'm increasing my Protein, keeping my carbs at a minimum, still eating less than before but is this how it is always going to be until I hit maximum fill capacity? Help anyone.

My doctor allowed me to start mushy foods at 5 days post op. My band was put in empty...the first week I was really tight because of the swelling. As the swelling decreased my appetite increased. My doctor told me this was normal because essentially the band is just sitting there until your first fill. My first fill I got a little less than 3 cc's and still did not have alot of restriction. Yesterday, I had my second fill of 2 cc's and OMG...I can't even eat a pulverized, mushed up, chewed up until its paste french fry from McDonalds. Yes, I know I shouldn't be eating there but, it was an on the fly...after a ball game thing...and it didn't work anyways! So, I see now that I am definitely not going to be able to eat what I was before yesterdays fill. Oh, and by the way...until yesterday's fill...I was able to eat wayyyyy more than 1/2 to 1 cup of food. Not now though! Best of luck to you both! Hang in there...this is definitely a learning process for all of us! =)

No, you don't have to go back on liquids. From reading posts here, doctors give different instructions for a post-op diet. My doc. said full liquids for one week, then soft foods for a week, then regualr food. I followed that and was absolutey fine. Good luck on your journey!

I was on liquids for 10 days and then was skipped right to mushies by my doc- my band suffered no harm.

That restriction that you felt the first week was swelling and is supposed to go away...I am 8 weeks out and am going to have my 1st fill on Oct 21st and have 0 restriction..I hope that I will get something when I get a fill but after reading all the other post on here and have a sinking feeling that I wont feel anything till the 3rd or 4th fill unless my doc is very agressive with my fills I have a 4cc band so hopefully I'll get to that sweet spot sooner rather then later...Good Luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
