First fill - no restriction

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill (4.5ccs) and still have no restriction. I have to admit I am kind of disappointed, especially because my surgeon probably would have done more. He had me sit up and drink Water several times and I was paranoid about judging if the water went down correctly or not. Oh well. I have another appointment in a month so maybe I can get another fill then.

I got my first fill a few days ago as well and I got 4ccs. My doctor told me right from the beginning that most people do not feel any restriction until they get 6-7ccs in them. After my fill she told me if after 2 weeks I feel no restriction and have no problems eating to call in and she will see me early. Maybe you can try that.. give it 2 weeks and then call the doctor and ask to come in early.. can't hurt!

I got 4 CCs my first fill; and had no restriction. The nurse said it could take 2 weeks for restriction to hit. When I hit two weeks I called about setting up another fill my next one was another 2 weeks out. Their policy is that it has to be 3 weeks from the time of you last fill before they will give any more. I was able to get an appointment for exactly 21 days from the first fill. Hopefully this will help.

My first fill was a little less than 3 ccs and I had no restriction. My second fill was 2 ccs and I am really tight! I am definitely not going to be able to eat like I was before! Good luck to you!

Your not really looking for "restriction" so to speak, but dimming of appetite.

If you can eat your 3oz of Protein and 1/2 cup of low carb veggies and be satisfied for 3 to 5 hours, you're at a good place. You may not feel "full" on that amount of food, you may have to move away from the table and wait a bit to see if that amount satisfies you.

I'm advised that if I'm still hungry 20 minutes or so after I finish my Protein & veggies.. that I can have more veggies, provided they're not drowning in butter or sauce.

And yes, sometimes it can take a week or two for a fill to make itself known. Give it time. I've never had a 4.5cc fill.. that would make me nervous too. My first was 1cc and all the rest have been smaller (.5 to .2 cc's).

Hang in there, it will work for you if you follow the band guidelines most of the time.

Yay ! finally after reading this page i am feeling so much better

I was banded on 9/20/10 i'm down *(flucuating)* between 25-30 lb weight loss since a pre op liquid diet! I had my first fill this past friday ( 3 days ago) 2cc's and i feel nothing! No restriction what so ever! i'm thinking i need to call him in a week or so because i DO NOT want to over eat and gain ... I am trying to work on Portion Control and healthy foods and i have been doing a really good job but it's tme to move past the fluctuating 26 lbs and get to 30-35-40. he did tell me he gave me 2cc's and everyone is different, but he didn't mention that it can sometimes take up to a week or two to feel the restriction?? can you guys elaborate on that please. I mean if this is true i will do my best to bare with it and wait a few weeks before calling and pleading for more cc's LOL

So here is the update to my last post ! I went to my heart and wellness session at the hospital which for my hospital and doctor is mandatory 12 post op coarse. There is a team of nursing staff that meets with us each week for 2 hours of working out, nutrition and meditation. The head nurse told me that she sends a note off to the doctor to let him know i dont' feel a change after my fill and that i should call him. I did that on friday and sure enough i do have an appointment this friday to get another fill. I hope this one works !:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
