One Belgium Dr, Two different prices??!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, Im hoping some of you can help me on this. I am based in ireland and as I have a bmi of 33 I am apparently not big enough to qualify for having the band in Ireland and if i did my medical insurance wouldnt cover it. There is a clinic over here who make bookings for a very well renowned surgeon in Belgium called Dr Christiaan De Bruyne who I have heard wonderful things about, but they are charging 6900 euro for the surgery and one years after care, while his site has the same op available for 4100 euro. I am torn between booking it directly with him and cutting out these robbers  but I am thinking about my after care. I know he visits the UK every week, and I could fly over to meet him i suppose but this would be very inconvenient. Are there any others out there from Ireland who have been banded by Dr De Bruyne? I would love to hear from you. I know that if i tired to book my aftercare seperate over here i would be RIPPED off.. But it still might be cheaper in the long run!!

i dont really know, i have a friend from belgium. I dont know how much your going to travel, but its worth it for me, we're going to save so much this way. Insurance will reimburse us around 4500 so we will pay 2000 for the surgery.

Hi there, thanks for the reply, do you mean that Dr De Bruyne has been on Oprah and that he is a founder member of the band?

Wow, now that is impressive..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
