I got my first fill yesterday..=)..have a few questions?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! So I was banded Sept 2 and I got my first fill yesterday. When I had my surgery my doctor put 4cc in my 10cc band, so I have felt restriction every since my surgery. Yesterday he added one more cc and I can definitely feel it. I have lost 14 pds since my surgery date. I see that a lot of people on here take months to feel restriction, and I am wondering if it is normal that I already feel so much restriction after one month. I have read the stories on here of people going thru "bandster hell" and I keep asking myself if I am going to go thru it or if by some chance I am going to skip it..lol..which I would love! What about you all, when did you feel restriction and what size was your band?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

WOW! That's awesome that you have lost 14 lbs. I was banded august 23, had 1 cc at surgery and 1st fill 1.5 cc on sept 23. for the first week I was doing great with that...then I started getting my appetite back. I am still eatting less than I was pre-band, and I am very concious of everything I eat, but it is easier to eat more now. I think that 5th week was when all the swelling finally went down and that's when my appetite resumed. Sounds like you are doing great! Hang in there!

I had my surgery 9-10-10 with no fill at all. Got my first fill Monday of this week. I had a big appetite before my fill. I got 2 cc. Its better now. I didn't know that they could put that much in at surgery. Thats cool. I wish i hadn't been through so much bandster hell.. You are lucky!!:thumbup:

Thanks! I am also very concious about what I eat and everything else I do that might effect my band mostly in part because I was self pay and I really can't afford to mess it up!

I am hoping the restriction stays, it would be a lot easier for me! Thanks for the reply! Good luck to you!

I was suprised too when my dr told me how much was in my band before my fill. I was expecting it to be at the most 2cc's. I am happy though, because I really haven't had to fight my hunger. Hopefully I will only need a couple of more fills and I will not need any more for a while! Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
