Can you have "stuck" periods and still require a fill?

Recommended Posts

I had my 14 cc band placed on May 18th and now have had 7 cc's in it for one month today. I have had about 4 pb/vomiting episodes with meat after I'm sure I didn't chew enough or I ate something too fast. I am still finding that I am quite hungry in between meals, and do eat around 70 gm of Protein a day. I'm confused on whether or not I need a fill at this point. I will say that during my period my band felt nice and tight and I was full with all meals! It was great but didn't last long!

Please let me know what you experts think! Thanks:cool2:

Very good question. I'd like to know the answer to this also. I've only had one fill of 4 cc's back at my 6 wk check up. I was banded May 20th. So it's been a while for me lol. I got stuck last night because I took to big of a bite. So can anyone answer this question?

I can only go by what my body does. I have never had PB to this point... also have not stuck due to not chewing enough, although I have swallowed too much at once and had a painful transition to the big stomach (no more than two or three minutes of pain). I would say that if you are sure you stick or PB'd due to not chewing enough or too big a bite, if you are hungry less than 3 hours after eating, then yes, you need a fill.

Yes. I recently got a fill even though I was getting stuck. I was getting stuck because I was trying to eat the wrong things... mostly bread. I'm such a hard head! Getting stuck on bread is a sign you may be getting close to your sweet spot, but sometimes you need to do maintance fills.

Yes---because most stuck incidents are due to "user error" or foods that just don't "work" with the band.

If you have difficulty eating, in general, then no--no fill. But if you have occasional issues, and are not remaining satisfied between meals, a fill might be a great idea.

I had 7cc in a 14 from July until yesterday- I got stuck a few times from trying wrong things, not chewing or random stuff like a Tomato skin blocking my port. I thought I had restriction but when I went to get checked under flouroscopy (for the first time) after I drank the barium the PA was like "You are wide open"- she then gave me 2cc-

I'm in that boat too...I can eat just about anything and eat between meals...I got so off track this summer and haven't been able to find my way back. Thank you to you and this website for inspiring me again.

I'd go in for a SMALL fill. I went back and forth for three months getting filled because of the symptoms you're describing, then getting an unfill because I couldn't eat anything, then getting a fill again because of the same symptoms...then unfill because I couldn't drink liquids...yeesh! Just be CONSERVATIVE with your fills! I'm now filled to a level where I don't have a problem with EVERY food, small bites aren't INSANELY necessary, and I'm learning to be satisfied with the foods I eat. Remember, the band is a TOOL...if you eat the wrong foods, filled or not, you're not doing it right!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
