MUSHIES! What are you eating?

Recommended Posts

I am hitting the mushies stage today  and am curious about what everyone is/has been eating. I had a chili "shake" last night and it was like HEAVEN! Real food. Would love any good recipes!

When I was on mushies, I made home made mashed potatoes made with skim milk, smart balance, a little salt and pepper and low fat cheese (that melted on the hot potatoes) oh my gosh they were so good! I also likes oatmeal and cottage cheese with sugar free strawberry applesauce.

I notice that many people eat mashed potatoes. I am just scared to! I have really tried to avoid sugars and eat low carb and I just feel that eating potatoes will mess that up. Am I right to be thinking this way? I also feel the same way about all the cream Soups.

You could try fax mash potatoes made from cauliflower. I use to eat them when I did low carb and plan on doing them when I get to mushies. I boil the cauliflower till fork soft, drain, then put it in a food processor with sour cream or skim milk and a little I can believe it’s butter and mix. You can make them thinner for mushies with more skim milk or even Water if you don’t want the carbs. sound bad but believe soooo good!

This is a great thread! I get to start Mushies on the 11th...I'm pretty darn excited to take a break from protien shakes!!!

I've had mashed cauliflower too...and its really good. If I can do that instead of getting addicted to potatoes again that would be great!

Any other mushie ideas???

Try mashed cauliflower. It tastes just like potatoes.

4 cups steamed cauliflower(I use the steam in bag kind for the micro) put in food processor and puree then add 4 tablespoons fat free sour cream, 2/3 cup of skim milk and salt and pepper to taste and puree some more. Microwave for 2 mins and use spray butter if u want.

They are really good and really filling without the guilt.

I'm in the middle of my mushies stage and have found baby food to be great tasting and convenient in that they are already in the right sizes (2.5-4oz). I'm type 2 diabetic and am used to watching carbs. Baby food is low in carbs and many are high in protien and already pureed. Also, I've been doing fingerling potatoes. They are lower in carbs than regular potatoes and naturally taste like they are smothered in butter and you don't need to add milk ! Just make sure you get the gold ones vs the red or purple as the red/purple don't taste as buttery. Most stores carry them in the produce section and if there is a Trader Joes in your area they carry them too. I have used the empty baby food jars to divide up the potatoes so I have a pre-measured amount ready to go. I need a lot of variety when I eat so I've been doing sugar free puddings and greek yogurt (high in Protein, no fat, low or no carbs). Haven't tried the cauliflower as others have suggested but will definitely try it!

Hang in there!

Zippy!

During my mushy stage I started to try to get creative. I browned up some hamburger very small and simmered it with some spagetti sauce and melted some cheese on top. It was heaven. I also for Breakfast made cream of wheat added unflavored protien and some Peanut Butter on top.

I am going to play around this weekend and see what I can come up with. I am definitely going to try the cauliflower!!! That sounds good. As a child, I was never a fan of cottage cheese, but I think I will give it a try now that I am "all growed up".

Thanks for the great ideas...keep them coming!

tuna salad, chicken salad (put the chicken through the food processor to make it really shredded), egg salad, spaghetti sauce. My doctor says anything that you can mash with a fork qualifies. Even meatloaf if you mash it first.

I'm trying to find Nicola Potatoes.. will probably have to grow my own. They are very low on the GI/GL list. Next on the list are New potatoes or red potatoes.

My hubby used to make cauliflower potatoes when he was low carbing.. by the time he got through putting sour cream, cream cheese, butter in them I thought they were a heart attack ready to happen! If I make them now, I'd do all low fat...

Don't laugh but I ate baby food. It's the perfect consistency and portion size. I liked the gerber mixed veggie and beef and added a small amount of salt and it tasted like vegetable soup!!! Chobani Greek yogurt and EAS myoplex premade choc shakes. sugar free Jello, sugar free icepops.

I just had some refried Beans, with a little bit of melted cheddar and some sourcream and picante sauce. YUMMY! I never thought I would have something taste so good again. I think that will be my dinner tonight as well.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
