ohhhh-so embarrassed!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I received my band August 25. I am more of a lurker, not much of a typer. But here here is my embarrassing story. I have been having so much gas and I can't seem to control it. At work this week, I tooted in by boss's office twice. The first time it happened, it was loud and I knew it was heard so I started laughing and my boss and a co worker just laughed. It happened a second time but this time it was not as loud, but I Know my boss heard it but acted like she did not. The worst part is, it stunk so I left her office.

Is anyone having the same problems?

I too have suffered the same thing. Sometimes it is so bad that I am even embarassed infront of my husband and go running to my bathroom to take care of it.

I have found gas pills to work well, as long as I keep up on them. And Gas Ex has dissolveable strips if swallowing pills are a bother. But I just use 2 of the generic kind from my drug store and that helps.

As far as your boss goes, if you are able, I'd ask to talk to her and explain you are currently dealing with a medical problem after surgery (does she know about the Band?) and one side effect is gas. Assure her you are trying to take care of things and you greatly appreciate her patience and understand during this difficult and embarassing time.

Hope that helps.

Kaylee...I had major gas problems for the first nine months. I am two years out and all is well. Everything has leveled out. I tried a number of different anti-gas products. What seems to work best for me are charcoal tablets. The only time I take them now is b/4 I eat something I know is going to bother me (chili, brocolli, etc.).

That is good to know! I was hoping the gas wouldn't last forever.

I have been burping a lot. I do have a lot of gas too, but I notice that it is mostly in the morning as I am waking up. Thank God my husband thinks it's funny and not gross!!! ; ) I have starting taking papaya enzyme and gasX chewables to assist. The burping happens at work, but I try to keep it real long and low so it doesnt just burst out and embarrass me!

I've had more gas since being banded than I've had in my whole life but I have noticed that it is a lot less than it was.

I was sleeping with a can of air freshener next to my bed.:blushing:

I hope it stays that way but if not I do walk with Gas-X chewables in my bag and I have 2 big bottles of papaya enzyme.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
