Should I go to bed with a "Stuck Pill"??

Recommended Posts

New to this... Will only be banded a week tomorrow. I took my Prevacid "Capsule" at 9:30. It got stuck. Its now 11 and I want to go to sleep. its still stuck, i have tried Water, hot cocoa, and walking. Nothing. I am just worried about the acid it can cause if I lay down and it doesnt pass.

What should I do. Its only annoyingly stuck. I can get liquid around it but can still feel it in there.!!!!

Sorry I don't have any advice for you other than I was told by both my surgeon and the hospital that I could never take capsules now that I am banded. I have to empty my gal bladder medicine into warm Water and take it as a shot.

I hope it moves soon

I know it's morning, so my answer's a day late and a dollar short. But if liquid is going down, I would wager the pill had already past, and the sensation you were feeling was a bit of swelling resulting from the stuck incident.

pills cause me trouble, too. I've had my meds switched to liquid whenever possible. My Vitamins are capsules, but not time-release. Taking them with warm liquid ensures the Gelatin cap dissolves before I have real trouble.

I feel your pain, but I also take prevacid every day with my chewable vitamins. I take all of my pills in the morning so that I have the whole to day to eat and drink on them to push them down and not know that anything is stuck. I agree that it probably is the feeling of being swollen from being stuck to begin with and that it will pass if it has not already. Try to take your pills in the morning instead of night time. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I talked to the patient advocate today. She said break a capsule apart and put it in applesauce etc. Which I know one had suggested!!! That's what I will be doing for now on.

Appreciate the feedback!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
