Starting Pre-Op Early?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!!!

Any thoughts on starting the Pre-Op Diet Early?

My Dr. says it's two weeks, I wanted to start a week early just to make sure the liver is small enough!! Think there would be any issues with that?

Let me know what you think,

Kevin

It couldn't hurt if you did... I was so-so on my preop diet... was pretty good with my partial liquid diet, had a few slip-ups (forced going out to lunch 3 times - but still mostly healthy) and my surgeon said there was no problem, that it was a textbook and easy procedure.

Starting early, and sticking to it could only help

Are you a masochist? LOL

I wouldn't do it, personally. Two weeks seems to be commonly accepted as adequate time to reduce the liver's glycogen stores.

I'm all for giving it your all--but I think if I wanted to get a head start, I'd do it more conservatively, by focusing on lean Proteins and nonstarchy veggies---and not thrusting myself into the land of liquids sooner than necessary.

Believe me, it will soon seem interminable for you.

Depends on what your pre-op diet is, I guess. I'm currently on 7 days of clear, sugar free liquids (broth, Jello, popsicles) and it sucks, lemme tell ya. :]

But if you're one of the lucky people who get to drink Protein drinks or eat real food, I'd say go for it. I don't know why anyone would ever want to do it longer than necessary, but it couldn't hurt.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
