Yucky in Kentucky, insurance anyone?

Recommended Posts

So I am new to the site and just started lookin ino lap-band. I've only done a few medically supervised things with weight, most have been on my own. And I've had sev diff insurances/jobs/docs over the last 5 years so it will be near impossible to get what little medical records I have (not many health problems other than weight that relate to weight, and none that will really help me get covered for banding anyway). I have no problem with the 6 mos supervised, I can live with that. But I have to decide if I want to pick up Humana PPO thru my work during open enrollment, or stick with my husbands BCBS alabama....Open enrollment goes thru Nov. 19 so I have till then to decide. Just went to my local free seminar on WLS and my BMI is just at 40 (no co-morbidities, at least none that they will allow me to use). Anybody have exp with BCBS alabama or Humana ppo in Kentucky???? Thanks!

I have Horizon BCBS of New Jersey and got my approval pretty quickly. I had to have proof of previous participation in a weight loss program such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc., and a psych evaluation. I was able to find an old Weight Watchers book from 2004 that had about 5 months of weights recorded in it. I thought they would really give me a hard time about that, but they approved it on the first try. My surgery date is set for October 19th! Good luck with everything!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
