Hi elikis,

I just had surgery on 9/17. The hardest part was my preop liquid diet, although I lost a lot of weight on that diet. If your surgeon does not have this requirement, the procedure itself is not bad. The gas pain was the worst of it. And I had some difficulty with swelling at first. The pain was not that bad. The best part is that I've lost 18 Lbs so far.

Best of luck with your surgery.

Thanx Maxi2010! I am currently on a pre-op diet, but my surgeon doesn't require liquid diet. I have to eat only 1000 calories daily. I'm actually a lil bummed about that because I don't feel like I got the weight loss head start a lot of others have since they did the liquid diet. I have only 4 days left and in the past 10 days I have only lost 3lbs. But, I guess a loss is a loss!

Hi Elikis.

The pre-op liquid diet got to me after a few days. It was making me sick and, by the end, I couldn't get in 1000 calories per day - I felt nausea all the time. Like you, I was allowed to have up to 1000 calories per day. It sounds like you have the best of all worlds - low calories (1000 max per day) without a liquid diet!

A three pound weight loss is not bad for the amount of time you are speaking about. People who have LAP-BAND®®® surgery don't lose weight fast but seem to keep it off over the long haul. That is more important. People with lapbands lose on average about 1-2 pounds per week, which is a good, healthy way to lose.

Keep your spirits up. Your surgery is right around the corner. Best of luck with your band procedure! Maxi

hi - I'm new here too. My surgery is scheduled for 10/15/2010. I have a liver shrinking diet that is 2 liquid meals and one lean meat/veggie meal. So far, I haven't been hungry at all...hope I stay this way.

I'm a little nervous about the surgery - hope everything goes well, and I don't have problems with reflux or extreme pain.

thank you to all who replied! I too am on the 2 week liquid diet. I was given Bariactric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes and couldn't stomach them so I am now tring to get in 5 Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes a day which is hard because I am type 1 diabetic and have to wait 4 hrs inbetween insulin injections.

Now that I am 4 days away...the diet seems easier even though I find myself admiring food I look foward to at least some Soup after surgery. I am only allowed sugar free Clear liquids and Jello or popsicles...as well as the shakes and chicken broth. I have had a few days where getting fluids in was hard but did really well today!

I am glad to find others going through or went through this surgery. I was originally going to get gastric bypass but couldn't come to terms with the finality and complications. I know it would of helped get the weight of quicker but I kind of want to work for it also from the start. I feel if I can do these two weeks I can do the rest of my life.

The weight gain has caused me to have PCOS and in order to have a child I need to lose weight and get my diabeties under control and I feel inside this surgery will be a tool to help!

3 pounds is alot! I think if I wasn't on this liquid diet for 2 weeks I would not have had the weight loss i have had so far which is only about 10lbs...so my hat is off to you and good luck! Keep in touch it would be nice to have someone to touch base with in the same timeline lol:biggrin:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
