You know I had never had them before. I tasted them a few wks ago with some sugar and it was really good.

Is it high in Protein?

ewww with sugar?? no, no, no. you eat them with butter & a pinch of salt. Or maybe some cheese or red-eye gravy.

To the Aussie: do you have Polenta down-under? It's the same thing.

As another poster said, do take it easy with grits, they're not weight loss friendly, they're ground corn and corn is a high glycemic food (ie, it tends to spike your blood sugar and then when the bld sugar levels drop.. you get hungry again faster).

In general, grits are not high Protein. However, if you add some cheese (preferably 2% or even lower fat), then you will get some protein.

Pre-banding I LOVED my grits. Nothing better with eggs & sausage in the morning..or with fried catfish at night. Now I rarely eat them. They are a treat rather than an everyday food.< /p>

Here's some info on a brand I sometimes buy. If I'm gonna indulge, I want the good stuff. With cool weather coming on, it might be time to have a little. I think it's been 6 months or more since I had any.

I LOVE grits; however, they're now hit or miss. I've had some of my worst stuck episodes trying to eat grits.

I use to eat malt-o-meal. I don't know if I can eat it any more. I'm scared to try when I'm able to eat again that is. I really loved couscous but found that it's a big carb, so I switched to quinoa and it has more Protein. Approx 5g protein for 1/4 cup. Not a lot but it's better than a total carb.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
