Ketosis Bandsters

Recommended Posts

After reading so much on Ketosis I went and bought myself some Ketostix. I'm really into it now and I'm striving to get there, Ketosis that is.

My question goes both male and female bandsters. How many carbs do you limit yourselves to a day to achieve high traces of ketones?

My doctor recommended one cheat day in order remain in ketosis as well. Anybody else here that?

Check out Atkins™ - Official Site - is a powerful life-time approach to successful weight loss and weight management. it says there 20 carbs or less- also if you sign up for the site they send you a free carb counting book

Thanks so much for the link. Right now I've achieved moderate to high levels of ketosis. It worked. Now I'm going to check on that site and see how it goes.

Glad I found this post, I just saw my nutritionist and this is what she suggested for me. She wants me to get 105g of Protein, I'm a little nervous about that but still in the early postOp stages. My first fill is in a couple weeks so I'm trying to get everything 'mind' wise prepared :)

i look forward to low carbing with the band (my date is january 18th) because i know when i get in ketosis normally, i have NO appetite. im hoping i wont have to experience "bandster hell" by doing this. since Protein and Calcium are the most important things (as i understand it) it seems that lap banding and low carbing are a match made in heaven....

Low carbing is what has helped me lose close to 45 lbs since August. If it wasn't for the Low carbing with the LapBand, I think my weight loss would've been slow. Plus I find when I eat carbs, especially the bad ones, you crave more carbs. To me carbs are evil. They make you tired fast and they make you hungrier faster.

I was banded Sept 2008. Lost 45lbs. Had a baby 3/2010. Got refilled 9/2010. I haven't lost anything. I am still down 40lbs. I started lo-carb two weeks ago. I have had pink-purple sticks everyday. Lost 7 pounds first week. Zero pounds lost this week even with ketosis. What do I do now?

Save your money and bypass the ketostix. If you drink enough Water, the sticks may not even change color even though you're in ketosis. If you're eating less than 20gm of carbs per day and those carbs are in vegies, you are in ketosis.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
