Hi everyone, I just joined this site. I am just exploring my options and figuring out what would be right for me (and what my insurance would cover), but I think that I would prefer lapband. I'm 28 years old, 5'10" and 265 lbs. I live in Georgia (I've already posted a newbie post in that forum). My husband of ten years is very supportive of whatever I want to do because he says he just wants me to finally feel good.

I'm starting to have some of those things that I thought I never would -- things I associate with obese people. Oh wait, I am obese! When did that happen? Ha. You know the, "at least I'm not..." type of things. I used to say that if I hit 200 lbs then I would do something. Well, I've done a lot of somethings and have a long list of diets in my past. I lost weight but always gained it back, plus some. This is my highest weight right now.

Glad that this forum exists and hope to learn more about banding experiences!

Welcome Viridescence, believe me, if you have a question about anything (and I mean anything) these fine folks will have the answer or they know how to get it for you.

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you here. This is by far the best support board you could ever find with a really great group of people who frequent here often. If you have any questions or concerns, ask away and someone is bound to have wonderful advice to offer.

This is a very serious and intimate decision you are making for yourself. Knowing as many of the facts as possible is key to your decision making. Don't be afraid of sounding silly and when the time comes for you to make up your mind, you should be ready.

Good luck in starting this journey. I wish you the very best of luck and hope to see you on the board again and again.

Happy Holidays

Cindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
