I flew a couple weeks ago and didn't set off their detectors. I also had to go through one to get into the county admin building to get my marriage certificate and theirs didn't go off either. Maybe just call your dr to ease your mind? It may be the titanium. I'd suggest that you definitely get a patient ID card that explains that you have a surgical implant just in case something like that happens in the future again.

I called my doc and the receptionist said I was the the 1st case she has heard of setting of the metal detector. I go back in for my next visit next week and I'll make sure I get a card to carry with me. I have flown a few times since the surgery and haven't had any problems. I think the detectors at the court house was set on a very high sensitivity. I don't think the doc left anything "extra" in me during the surgery because they do x-rays the following morning.

I just went to a Federal Courthouse and had a really hard time getting into the building. My whole mid-section kept lighting up and setting off the system. After 5-6 tries and wand scans I mentioned I had surgery several months ago and they said that was probably it. They also suggested my doctor do an x-ray to make sure they didn't leave anything inside. Has this happened to anyone else?

My dr. also gave me a card to carry....I just added it to my stack. I now have 3 cards to carry. 1 for lap band, 1 for insulin pump, and 1 for pacer/defib. lol....just carry the card and you should not have any more problems. I have set off alarms at amusement parks, courthouse and police dept.

Yes, because of the titanium you can set off the alarms. I set off the one at Walmart.< /p>

Yep, me too. My doc explained to me about the titanium piece in there and that it will most likely set off metal detectors. Mine has never failed me. :-P I have the card to that I give them and all its fine.

I didn't know that I had a Titanium Ring in there tell last year !

I went for a Bone Density Test, and the Girl asked me to please remove my Belly button ring !

I told her that I didn't have one. She said yes you do, and I said No I dont !

After about 3 x of going back and forth she uncovered me, as to show me my ring, and there was none.

I told her I had a Lap Band inplant in me, and she scanned, and said yep ! it's your Band. and showed me where it was, and I told her that's my Port. So it's attached, but I have never set anything off yet !

I even have 2 Titanium Knees, and nothing ever went off. I guess I'll see in time, as we get more sophisticated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
