I'm not sure what a band slip feels like, but you will know if you're stuck. You'll feel it in your throat or sometimes in your back if it's really bad. It's very uncomfortable and frustrating.

My doc. said if your band slips you suddenly can't keep anything down, not even Water. It happens in 3% of cases, so the odds are with you. Good luck in your journey.

Thats not a dumb question at all. I've had a few things get stuck... the worst is chicken .... each time I say to my family... well I'll never eat that again! When food gets stuck it hurts and you have that mouth watering feeling right before you throw up. (sorry being graphic now) and when you do throw up its not like normal due to the fact that its mostly saliva first and then the actual particles of food come up. The "stuck" feeling for me goes away after I throw up. As far as slipping it hasn't happened to me ... thank goodness. Hope this helps

I have gotten stuck a couple times now (I am 6 wks post). I was not paying attention to the way I was eating and ate too big of a bite. It feels like the food is stuck at the bottom of your esophogus and like you are going to immediately throw up. Dont drink something to try to get it to go down, that will just make you want to hurl more. Calm yourself down and if you can, get up and go to the bathroom. I read this on a post on this site, and have since used it both times I got stuck...dont laugh, but flap your left arm up and down like a chicken wing while standing up. Keep doing it for a few minutes. both times it took about 5 min and the feeling passed. I also read to keep papaya enzyme chewables handy at all times. It is a digestive aid that helps some bandsters. I just got them so I have not tried them while stuck, but the flapping works. I am totally serious.

I dont know what the band slippage feels like and I hope never to find out.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
