Ummm help...My belly button is bleeding from the inside

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Trying to stay calm here. I would be talking to my surgeon right now about this but it's a long weekend and he's not in the office.

So here's the thing:

I had my surgery exactly a week ago. Today I went for a long drive and my belly button started to bleed. I've got pains allover my torso and behind my belly button. There's areas on my stomach that feel kind of hard and some that feel kind of soft.

It also hurts to eat - could this be the band slipping? I haven't puked yet.

Hi Wren,

I am not a Doctor or knowledgeable BUT GO TO THE E.R.

Bleeding and Pain isn't good. Go to the E.R. and get yourself checked out.

I am sure it isn't life threatening but get checked out immediately to make sure you are ok / Put your mind at ease.

Hope you are Fine.

-Brian :)

:-/

It's not bad enough bleeding to go to the ER I reckon. I live far away from the nearest hospital, otherwise I may have considered it at lunchtime when I realised that my belly button was bleeding. It's stopped now, there wasn't much blood.

Is anyone else experiencing this or has experienced it? Or even know what it could be?

I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow. I really hope I'm not the only one. :D

Do you mean stitches on the inside? eek...That is freaky. I didn't have an incision in my belly button to my knowledge so if I'm bleeding internally that may be a problem.

Could it be old blood from the surgery that pooled in your belly button oozing out because of the sitting position in the car or if you got a bit sweaty? I had lumps of dry blood and betadine in my belly button that i found a few days after surgery. Good luck at the doctors tomorrow. Hope it is something simple.

Please give the doc a ring.... it may be nothing but this is all part of post-op self care. You will have peace of mind - Please let us know how you're doing so we can have peace of mind about you. Warm wishes Des

PS Sorry it's icky but we all have internal stitches. The band has to stitched on to our abs and on to the stomach to keep it in place. In the 1st six weeks it's all about healing and having the lapband bond to where its been sewn on to.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
