Nausea and Indigestion!

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I am new here. I am 4 days post surgery. My biggest complaint is the nausea and indigestion!!!!! The pain is tolerable and I dont have the shoulder pain thank goodness. That being said, the indigestion and nausea is horrible.

When I got out of surgery on Thursday I had major nausea and then started vomiting. Luckily the vomiting only lasted that day. However, the nausea and indigestion has been pretty consistant. I know they say the nausea is normal, but what about the feeling of just something being stuck ALL THE TIME????? Like you want to have the biggest burp of your life!!! Has anyone else had this and will it go away??

I had my hernia fixed and they said all the reflux and indigestion would go away.. NOT. I am hoping its just from being swollen and my doctor puts a little bit of Fluid in the band so that you arent dying of hunger the first month before a fill.

Has anyone else had this horrible feeling of something being stuck all the time even though you are only on liquids???

Right now I am wishing I would have never done this. I need some help and advice :smile2:... Thank you so much!

Mama... I feel your pain. I got my surgery done Thursday as well and I'm regretting it at this point. My neck pain is horrible, I feel like throwing up after ever sip of Water. I have a lump in my throat. I could go on and on with my list of aches. I'm calling my dr tomorrow. I just feel that something just isn't right.

I was banded on Friday and I too feel full after drinking fluids. I probably had a 1/2 cup of Soup (cream of chicken) and i felt burpy after that. I know so many people keep saying walking is the best thing for it, so I'm going to try to get moving today. On my way to grocery store for some sugar free popsicles.

Thanks to you both for replying! I feel like I have something constantly stuck. Its tight in my chest. I cant stand it. It makes me nauseated all time. I have lived on Gaviscon and Zofran since surgery. It relieves it some but not enough.

My sister has the band as been very happy. However, she said the first week is horrible.

We can get through this yall.:smile2: Please post or reply any helpful tips you find or try!

Nausea/Indigestion- Gaviscon/Zofran

Shoulder Pain - Heating Pad

These have worked pretty well for me so far!

I was banded last Sat.,9/25 and felt fine until Thursday...then I started the Protein bullets and have felt horrible ever since..I ahd to stop the bullets because they made me so sick! I even had dry heaves when I tried to take Zophran...it's miserable..it is an ordeal to drink 48 oz. of Water and get the Protein in...right now, I feel like a failure but I have faith that things will get better. I also had the hernia repair.

Jan, So sorry. Ok I had to cut out my shakes. UGH hate them. However, I found a Water that has 40grams of protein! it is by Natures Best, Isopure 40g protein Zero Carb. I got it in Grape Frost at the Nutrition Store. It's much better than the shakes/bullets. Now, it leaves you with a bit of cotton mouth. Only downside I have found. Dont look at it either! It has little protein floaties I guess LOL. I drink it in in a sports bottle!

LOL @ little floaties.... That would make me squeamish because I would think it was dirty, putting it in a sports bottle sounds like a good idea :)

I was banded on Friday 10-1-10. I felt pretty good day of surgery and the on Saturday. However yesterday Sunday I felt horrible. Very nauseous throughout the day and had an episode that I thought I was going to throw up, my mouth got all watery and i started sweating. Almost the whole day I felt sick and had a lot of indigestion. I'm currently doing creamy Soups (thinned) Protein Shakes and Gatorade. Today I'm going to go back to just broth and a Protein Shake if I can stand it. The thought of a Protein shake right now is gross, I really dont' like the taste of them at all. Hopefully I will find one I like.

Best of luck to you all!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
