What is "bandster hell"?

Recommended Posts

I know this question may have been answered in another thread but I am new here and didn't fnd anything yet so I am asking the veterans. What is bandster hell?

Thanks in advance for the help. Trying to prepare as much as possible for what to expect with my surgery possibly a month away.

I am 5 weeks post op and so lucky to have not had to go through "bandster hell" but from what I can gather its:

Uncontrolled hunger

Hunger pains

Being able to eat any and everything

There maybe more but I think those 3 pretty much covers it. I think I maybe the exception rather than the rule though. I hope you have a great journey!!

It's the period of time between the time your band is installed and the time you achieve good restriction (after a series of one or more adjustments). During this time, people often become frustrated because they expected the band to control their hunger---and instead find themselves feeling as though they are dieting and hungry!

It's time-limited--and if you eat carefully (and remind yourself that it will be the last time ever you will be hungry in the name of weight loss), it's not that big of a deal. It's just part of the process.

Bandster hell is the period of time from getting banded to reaching a good restriction level. For most people its after a few fills. I'm about 5.5 months out and FINALLY out of bandster hell. I thought I was out of it on my last fill because I rarely had hunger feelings- but that's because I could still eat about anything, and quite a bit of it! Now I'm truly feeling the effects of the band & don't feel so much like I'm doing all the work. Lapband is no quick fix a lot of it is up to you & for the first few weeks/months its all up to your commitment! Best of luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
