When I am pretty tight, like after a fill it, takes me about 30 minutes. When I am a bit looser it's more like 15-20.

Gabbi~ were you told to wait 10 minutes between each bite? That just doesn't sound right to me.

I was told to take between 20-30 minutes to finish each meal, but I have never heard of a time limit between bites.

I'd check with your nutritionist or Dr. just to verify that's what they are expecting.

MellieW, HI! YUP! that's what they not only told me but it's written on my dietary plan as well. It's frustrating becuase i takes me such a long time to finish a freakin cracker! u know? :smile2: and i feel like i can eat more. so how long do you wait before each bite? and how big are your bites?

Wow! That just seems a little extreme to me. Have you asked why they want you to wait so long between bites?

I'm still on the liquid phase for a couple more days, but I'm mindful to take the full 20 minutes required to eat 1c of Soup. I use a teaspoon so that's the size of my bites. It's an adjustment to eat so little over a 20 minute period so I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you to only be able to take a bite every 10 minutes!

Is this something he/she requires just during the healing process or is this how he expects you to always eat?

Yeah, that sounds extreme. I was told to take small bites, put the folk down, chew throughly and it takes me about 20 minutes sometimes longer depending but never more than 30 minutes. If it took 2 hours for each meal you would be eating all day long.

Wow Gabbi, I agree with everybody else, that is a bit extreme.

My bites are about 1/2 teaspoon a piece. I chew each bite about 30 times, then wait maybe another 30-60 seconds to take another bite.

It is a big adjustment. Before I was a hurried eater (which of us wasn't though?) so I've had to REALLY concentrate on my eating, most the time my food is cold by the time I'm done with it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
