Laura's List of NSV's

Recommended Posts

Yeah! They let me join the turtle club! Not happy about being a turtle, but at least I get an exclusive club membership out of it! Anyways, here's my NSV's so far:

1. I feel in control of food, not vice versa, for the 1st time in my life.

2. My clothes are looser.

3. I've been exersizing more than pre-band (not hardly enough but some is better than none)

4. I haven't binged since I got banded.

5. It's easier to count calories now that what I eat is actually ONE serving size.

6. I do think I look a bit better.

7. I don't have anymore acid reflux or stomach sickness episodes since my doc fixed my hiatal hernia while getting banded.

8. When my DH rubs my back he says he can feel bones in there now!

9. I don't bake and cook stuff that is just around to eat anymore b/c I know it will just go to waste since I can't hardly eat anything anymore.

10. I've had things like ice cream in the freezer for WEEKS! I used to just eat that stuff if it was around. Now I never have room for ice cream after dinner, and I used to eat ice cream after dinner every night.

11. I don't get out-of-breath as much or as easily as I did before my band.

That's it for now!

Well done! Great list, Laura! And welcome to the Slow Loser's Club, you are official now! Your NSV list is an integral part of your ability to be a patient turtle. Keep it updated as the NSV's roll in, especially as the scale moves slowly. Folks are very supportive of this most important list. You are an inspiration!!!! Congrats!

Welcome to our very exclusive club, Laura!!

You have a most impressive list of NSV's here.

I wish I could say that I am in control of food, instead of the other way around. But for me, without my band, the food would still rule - without a doubt.

I'm glad you're feeling so much better. And Bones!! I love it that you and your husband can feel bones now. That's one of my favorites, too.

Thanks so much for posting these. It helps us realize just how much we're ahead since being banded.

Good Job and Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
