I would take at least a week, just so you can recover properly otherwise you will be so worn down from going to work too soon you wont have any energy left for your family, and being a single mom is hard enough!

I work in a nursing home as a social worker. I'm on my feel a lot and was worried about going back to work. I went back on my 6th day (had surg on a tues and went back the next monday) and have done great. I think about a week is a good amount of time!:smile2:

I took the full 2 weeks off. It really helped, but make sure to increase your activity at home so going back isn't so tough!

I was banded on a Thursday and back at work on the following Monday. My stomach was a bit sore still but I managed. I think I would have driven myself insane if I would have taken more time off. It was nice to get my head back into a normal routine.

Good luck!

My Original surgery date was Fri 10/8, (which was an alternate holiday since I don't work Mondays), and I planned to take the entire next week off... this would have given me 11 straight days off (including surgery day) and I was sure this would be enough time.

My surgery was moved to Tuesday 10/5 and am still taking that entire week off, but so far not planning on the next week... this will give me 7 days off (not counting day before surgery, which I don't work anyways), and while logically i think it should be enough time, I'm hesitant... but I can always take an extra day or two on the back end if I need to...

My mom's cubicle neighbor at work had Lap Band around 3 years ago and was back at work 4 days later. She said the worst part was the first few days while the gas dissipates, and advised to wear very loosefitting clothing (i.e. dresses) and granny panties afterward... she said waistbands and especially underwear rubbing against the incisions was the absolute worst).... everyone heals differently, and I tend to heal slowly so we'll see.

I was banded last Thursday and went back to work today. I am managing just fine, but I would have rather had a full week off to rest.

well i guess i am different. i have been 3 weeks and feel i could use another week. i am very tired and low energy. i travel to work on public transportation to a different state. i am on a 3 week liquid diet. my doctors office never told me that the allowed time off is 2 weeks. i told them i can take a month off and the pa never said anything to me. i am willing to go back to work if i could eat a few days before returning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
