Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

I found that walking or even just being up on my feet helped with the shoulder pain. I also got shoulder pain from the tightness of the band after surgery. It would start even after just a few sips. It would ease after a while but was dependent on the amount I drank. I learned to work with it.

maria, I seems like others have had that too, I never had shoulder pain till 2 weeks out, and I think it's cause I'm just now starting pureed food as opposed to all liquids. anyway what I hear is the shoulder pain is gas pain, and walking is the main thing- for me when I get it I force out some loud burps- and some say gas ex strips help. hope it gets better soon. walking I think helps move the gas around more.

Hi,

I was banded Sept 1. At my first post op appointment on Oct 1, we decided to not give me my first fill since I was doing well "as is". I'm allowed up to 1200 calories per day, but am satisfied at taking in 700-800 calories and 65-70 grams of Protein. I'm wondering where I fall on the "normal" scale and just how to think about this. Will my fellow September bandsters please share your current calorie intake and if you've had a fill or not? Thank you.

Hi! Got banded 9/28. So far so good. The first week of Clear Liquids SUCKED, but I got through it and now it seems like a distant memory. Just wanted to add for anyone having trouble making sure they get enough of everything, I use the calorie counter on about.com. It is free and breaks down ALL of your intakes for the day so you know you got enough Protein, Iron, vits., etc... It is a really great tool and food journal. You can also save foods you eat often so they are easily added. I LOVE IT!!! Good Luck ALL!!

I am so jealous reading about everyones weight loss, I was banded 3weeks ago and can eat anything and everything and have lost nothing but the 8 kilos I lost in week 1 which now I have to say I have gained back. The doctor said they don't fill the band until week 8 and so it's wide open which is why I can eat anything. I can't control my intake of food which is why I got the band in the first place. Oh well it looks like I will have to wait until week 8 until my weigh loss journey continues. Love reading everyone's stories I must say and keep it up.

I'm right there with ya! I won't have my first fill until Nov 30th, at the earliest! My Dr. said I was doing so well, there's no reason to rush a fill just for the heck of it. My meal plan at this point is very similar to yours. I don't know how normal we are with this, but I'm trying to stay positive about it. I figure the more I can do without the fill, the better off I'll be in the future. Personally, I don't really like the feeling of restriction. So, if I can control myself without it, so be it! :puke:

Thanks for your encouraging words, Kat. My doctor has had patients who didn't get a fill for a year. The more I read about fills and restrictions, the more I think -- "Hey, if it works, don't fix it!" Best of luck to you!

I'm John and i was Banded 9/30/10. Starting weight was 260 lbs and now im exactly 240 lbs. Down 20 lbs in 10 days. Surgery was great, with only 2 days of discomfort and everything has been perfect since that time. I want to lose a minimum of 90 to 100 lbs. I wish all of my fellow Sept 2010 Banders best of luck and hope to keep in touch through this process.

I was banded 9/17. I went in for my first fill last week, but didn't get it since I still had swelling and Fluid at my port site, so I'll supposedly have it next week.

I've only journalled my calories one day, because I was stuck on the scale, and I was at about 800 calories (it was a very typical day for me). I think that is too low for me at this point, so I upped it to about 1000 and my scale finally moved this morning.

I wake up feeling hungry, but my hunger has been surprisingly non-problematic otherwise. I think it's because I did a month of low-carb before surgery and "shrunK' my stomach (i.e. appetite). I have to admit I'm sort of nervous about having a fill, because things have so far been ok without one. But i know I'll eventually need it.

So that's where I'm at.

Hello all, My surgery was on 10/23. Today was my first post-op appointment.

My beginning weight was 207 I'm now down to 179, I had lost 9 lbs before my

surgery. At my appointment today I was telling the Doctor I was feeling

a little headed, today I start on pureed food he said that should help and he

also took me off of my presser meds.

Hi everyone, I have been busy getting ready for my sons wedding. Struggling a bit with the food and hunger. I won't get filled for another week. Food was always my comfort and companion when I was stressed and now I need to find another outlet for these emotions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Interesting that the scale moved after increasing your calories. I sometimes wonder if I'm doing an injustice to my metabolism intaking 800-ish per day. I can understand nervousness re: a fill, me too! Please let us know how your next appointment goes.

Yeah from what I've read if your calories are too low your body can go into emergency mode of converting calories to fat storage, and really slowing the metabolism down. That's just what I"ve read though. . I also just read that it is impossible for the human body to lose more then 3 lbs per week of fat, so anything over that is likely muscle. of course when you weigh as much as I do it's hard to care about that at this point. LOL

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
