Well, here I am 6 days into preop diet, and I lost almost 20 pounds. But I am starving!

Tonight, I was no longer able to hold it together and I ate a steak the size of Rhode Island.

I'm so ashamed and disappointed in myself!!! And a little nauseous.

However, I vow to not let this derail me completely. In the past, if I fell off the diet wagon, I'd just throw in the towel and give up on the whole thing. But today, I will put my failure aside and get back on the saddle.

I'm only three days post op and i want to 'cheat' coz i'm hungry. i'm too scared to try though...before in the preop..nothing really would happen..now that i'm banded i'm not sure sooooo i will stay on my path! You've done awesome on the weight loss so far..i only lost 10 before and 3 since...

good luck and keep fighting the good fight!

Well, the good news is that you chose Protein and fat--so your decarbing wasn't disturbed. The purpose of the preop diet is to reduce the glycogen (carbohydrate) stores in the liver. This reduces the liver's size, making it easier for the surgeon to maneuver during surgery.

No harm, no foul. (In fact, some surgeons--like mine--permit one Protein + leafy meal/day during the preop diet.)

Hop back on the wagon. You're almost there, and it will be worth the ride.

I did almost the very same thing. I started my Preop a month before surgery to get a head start. I went strict with 5 shakes daily for 2 weeks before surgery. By day 4, I was back having a light meal at night.

Grilled chicken over salad day 5, grilled chicken sauteed with broccoli rabe the next night. I called my doctor and told him and he said I'll be ok. He said the biggest thing was that I didnt have any starches, no added fats, and no sugar.

He knows I dropped 25 pounds the last 4 weeks so the light meal at night wasnt going to enlarge my liver again. But he would prefer I go shakes only the last 5 days.

So dont worry about a steak one night. I think you dropping 20+ pounds shows that you've been doing just fine.

Boston, it's ok. So you just start all over again! No need to get worked up. This is such a huge emotional experience that you are going through and it will take time to make changes. Just be proud of the six days you have done and think about the great feats you will be defeating in the future!

I am totally freaked out about my pre-op diet, as I am flying to FL for a baby shower a week before. I'll be soaking wet from the salivation pouring out of my mouth at that shower with all the food that will be there that I cannot have! :smile2:

Thank you so much, everyone. I can't get over what a wonderful, supportive community this is!

I'm back on the wagon today and honestly, I feel heavy and a bit nauseous. I guess my body is in shock, going from shakes to beef like that!

I think part of the problem is I'm not having enough Protein. I had misunderstood my diet, and thought it said to have the Protein Shakes, OR yogurt, OR cottage cheese, when it fact, it said AND! So, no wonder I was starving!

So today I am making sure I consume enough to stay healthy and not be so hungry.

Three more days until surgery!

I wish my diet said "and". I'm on 3 shakes or strained cream Soup a day and then of course whatever sugar free drinks, sugar free popsicle, one no sugar added fudgesicle. But I don't get it...i am not having anywhere near the same Protein everyone else is.-the soup only has 1 gram per serving, the shakes are 15 but they have carbs?? I am starving, feel weak. I have literally just stayed in the house for the last 3 days because I feel crazy!! I am on day 4 and have 8 more days to go...(should have been 14 days but they let me schedule the surgery as soon as my insurance got approved.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
