Getting my "fill" on Monday!!

Recommended Posts

So it's been six weeks since my surgery, and I can't wait to get my first fill. This is truly Bandster Hell and I am so frustrated I could scream!! I haven't felt any restriction since the second week after my surgery. I don't think I've lost as much as I thought I would by this point. I dropped 10 lbs before surgery and probably another 18 or 19 lbs since then. I know, I know -- everyone is different, but my stomach growls SO much and I'm trying so hard to stick to a healthy food plan. Not being able to drink liquids with my meals has been a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I went out to dinner last week with a girlfriend, and the waiter couldn't believe that I didn't want any Water. "Are you sure?" he kept asking. "Can I get you something else, like tea or coffee? " I know he was trying to be helpful, but really -- no means no.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. It does help...

LOL about the waiter- I have had that problem too! Now I just have them bring it because I don't want to deal. Good luck with your first fill!

I am at 6 weeks and getting my first fill on Tuesday. I have been doing okay and not really having too many hunger issues. I have been really strict with myself and have just put mind over matter. I am so happy and feel great thus far. I hurt my leg walking (probably doing too much too fast) so I had to take the week off from walking, but I am so proud of myself.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearnig how your fill went. Please be sure to post!

I was very excited to get my first fill. However, it didn't provide any restriction. Just be aware it may take several fills. Just want you to be prepared for that. Good luck in your journey!

So I had my first fill -- 3cc in a 10cc band. Now that it's Thursday, I have to say it doesn't feel any different. I'm not feeling restriction and I'm not getting that feeling of being satisfied with my meals. The doctor said that most of his patients really feel a difference by the 3rd fill. I guess they prefer to be conservative with the fills instead of rushing patients through the process.

I have lost 32 lbs total since mid-August, and I know it's pounds I'll never have to lose again, so the process works, just not the way I thought it would. Want to get to the "sweet spot" green zone!

Thanks for your responses. It really makes a difference!

I got 4 CC's in a 10CC band first fill. Oddly I felt a tightening sensation when I got up off the table but I have not had restriction. I have to wait 3 weeks before they will give another fill. I was able to get an appointment for this coming monday (3 weeks) instead of waiting for my original appointment which would have been 4.5 weeks. Right now I am dieting; and even more so than preband. And PreBand I was on a pretty restrictive diet. But I was clearly getting more Protein (4-5 oz of protein) vs the 3 oz my doctor wants.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
