Need Help Figuring Out This Hunger Thing...

Recommended Posts

Howdy all - I had my third fill on Wednesday, bringing me up to 5.2 ccs. I thought this would be the magic fill when I would get my much needed restriction and begin to escape bandster hell. Wednesday after my fill, I did Clear Liquids only - it was actually a little tough to even get down some of the Water. Yesterday, full liquids. Not much of a challenge and things were going well. Today, I move to mushy foods (yay!) because my tummy was really starting to growl. So, I had some oatmeal. I ate slowly, took me about 20 minutes, and by the time I was about halfway through, I thought - geez, i'm really full. I threw the rest away. 30 minutes later - stomach is growling again.

So, here are the questions:

1) does this mean I still haven't reached restriction? I haven't had solid food yet but i'm pretty bummed that my tummy was growling 30 minutes after eating.

2) do you think its because I didn't include carbs?

3) how many fills did it take you to reach restriction?

Thanks all!

My stomach growls too after I've eaten oatmeal for breakfast! I would ignore that tummy growling sound. Drink Water or something else you like, like Crystal Light. That helps me get through. I've started drinking a Protein Shake for Breakfast and I notice it keeps me from feeling hungry or hearing the growling sounds until lunch.

I'm at my 3rd fill...a little more cc's than what you have, and I notice a difference. I do get full sooner. My stomach was growling last night when I went to bed, but I know I wasn't hungry.

The NUT actually told me the stomach growling is a good sign because it shows your metabolism is working.

Actually oatmeal is a carb. so that wasn't the problem. I too don't stay full as long as I'd like. I eat 5-6 times a day. 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks. Hopefully with more fills you will stay full longer. It took me 3 fills to feel any restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
