Getting pregnant with PCOS

Recommended Posts

How many of yall have gotten pregnant and have PCOS? I am having fasting blood work done next week to check all of my levels since losing around 50 pounds. My husband and I are wanting to get pregnant, and I have PCOS. Although I haven't had a cyst in a long time, I still do have some abnormal Hair growth (not as bad as it used to be), and I don't know what my bloodwork will look like. Although for the past couple of years, my blood sugar has been fine, but my insulin has been up a little bit. Any stories would be great!!

I have not been banded yet but have PCOS. We used minimally invasive fertility treatments (not in vitro) and have had 6 children this way. One set of twins (one survived) 7 years ago and one set of quadruplets that just turned 3.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS since i was 20 years old...after many infertility treatments such as clomid, injections, iui's, metformin, etc we finally conceived at the age of 36. I was extremely overweight at that time...267 has been my highest weight (non-pregnant) so i know that has alot to do with having a hard time conceiving. When my son turned a year old we tried to conceive again with the same infertility treatments...without success. So, being that I was 39 years old we decided that our family would be complete with just the three of us and I decided to stop trying and get the lapband since I was so over weight. Well, four months later and 50 lbs lighter (I got down to 191) I found out that I was pregnant...much to our disbelief. I never thought that I could get pregnant without out the help of a pill, injection or a Dr. being involved in it but it did happen. Weight loss is such a big key in controlling PCOS. Since my surgery I have been off of the metformin because of the insulin resistance and so far no signs of gestational diabetes with this pregnancy. So my advice to you is to keep up with your weight loss and healthy lifestyle and if you do need the help of infertility treatments it is very possible to conceive. I wish you tons of luck!!!

Good except being so overweight! Life is good, dh stays home with the quads and big sister. He is thinking of getting banded too as we have both always been quite large. Congrats on the pregnancy!

I am so inspired reading the stories of others who have been able to conceive. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 15 yrs and have been through several rounds of clomid with IUI and have tried every herb and supplement and weird suggestions out there. I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago and have been taking metformin since. I was finally able to conceive last year and miscarried after 7 weeks. Our next available option was to try IVF. But, wow, that is expensive. So, we decided to focus on getting healthy instead and hope that this will right all of my hormones issues and get me to a place where we can conceive naturally. I just got banded 8 days ago and am already feeling very positive. I have already lost 15lbs and can't wait to get my first fill, get cleared to excercise more and get to a point where I can start trying again. I know that the literature says to be sure not to get pregnant for 18 months, but there is no way that I am waiting that long! I'm already 36, I can't wait anymore!!!!!!

I also have PCOS and will be banded in 3 weeks, I haven't been able to get pregnant on clomid and IUI, so thats why I decided on the Lap-Band, I am 32, just turned last week, and I really don't want to wait much longer.

I'm 31, have PCOS, and got my lap-band a year and a half ago with the idea that it would be easier to get pregnant if I lost a significant amount of weight. I stopped birth control over the summer and started charting my temperature last month. After a decade of being seriously anovulatory (and never having gotten my period naturally) I was having perfect 29 day cycles.

Then last weekend I took a home pregnancy test and I'M PREGNANT!

We thought it would take years and multiple fertility interventions/medications to see those two little pink lines, but it happened in two months. It's been years since I've even taken Metformin, just my daily thyroid pill. I think the recent weight loss (about 60 lbs) must've balanced out my hormones and spiked my fertility. I'm so thankful for this little piece of silicone that enabled what feels like a miracle.

Best of luck to you in your journey!

Congrats!!!!!! I got my period, naturally, on October 16, so these past couple of days have been my ovulating time. My OBGYN doesn't seem to think that I will need ovulating medicine. And all the signs of ovulation I have. Anyways...so we are keeping our fingers crossed that I keep having my periods naturally, so we can get pregnant!!

I have PCOS. After getting banded I lost 100 pounds and started getting my period back. BAM, we got pregnant. Losing the weight helped regulate my period and helped me conceive. Don't lose hope!

Since I was 17 I was always told I'd never conceive. My periods came once a year, if that. So I had little hope. When I found out I was pregnant even my OB said those with PCOS have higher miscarriage rates, etc... it's a battle and a journey. I felt anxious all the time, but I now have a healthy one year old.

Just keep chugging alone, besides practicing making a baby isn't that bad of a job, right?

We tried to conceive for almost two years with not luck (this was back in 2005-2007). Finally diagnosed with PCOS (I knew I had it but ignorant/rude doctors wouldn't diagnose me), sent to the fertility specialist 6 weeks after the diagnoses...only to be told I'm already 5.5 weeks pregnant. My daughter turned 3 last weekend, and I'm getting my IUD removed in April, hoping to chart my cycle and start really TTc in July.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
