Feeling so down today!

Recommended Posts

Was banded Tuesday the 28th. Today has been tough. I woke up with a cold and have been having some minor gas pains. The biggest problem is that I am starving! My husband is having surgery next week and is trying sooo hard to support me by not eating around me, but that makes me feel bad. Him eating a sandwich in front of me makes me feel bad too though. I almost snatched an oreo out of my 5 year olds hand tonight. I know it will get better eventually, I hope! I am just going crazy tonight. The worst part is trying to hide it cause I don't want to discourage my husband since he is going in a week.

Hi I am sorry you are feeling down today, I was banded on Sept 13, 2010 and I have days like you are having not so much as when I first got my band but still I have them, I miss just being able to eat food, the hard part is having to prepare everything! To not just go in a get something to eat without having to think about it, but of course that is what got me in this trouble. I have lost 10 lbs since the 13th and I am happy about it but wish I could see more come off. I wonder if I will ever be able to enjoy food again, right now I am at the puree Protein stage and it's wonderful to be able to eat something other than Soup and mushed up food it's still not as great as I imagined it would be. Let's not give up, I think it's awesome that your husband is doing it with you it will make things so much easier for you, my mother made lasagne the other day (a huge pan) and I wanted some so bad, I wanted to just get in there and stuff my face with it like I used to, it's kind of sad but I think if I can lose weight and be thinner it will make all this worth while. If I knew how hard this was going to be I would go back in time and not have it done and try harder to diet and excercise...but the reality of it is I did it to be healthy and look better and I've only heard positive things from people who are farther down the road then we are. Let's pray that we get through this and accomplish what we set out to do when we decided to go through with lap band surgery..my heart goes out to you I know this is so hard...best wishes.

Your story is pretty much identical to mine. I was banded Tuesday the 28th as well and so far it's been hell. I'm not hungry but I'm forcing myself to take down fluids and Liquid Protein in order to reach my daily target and it makes me feel sick. I'm staying at my parents' house with my boyfriend and he tries so hard to help but he just doesn't understand what I'm going through. While him and my parents are eating delicious fat filled food I'm sipping on some chicken broth trying not to get sick. I'm overly emotional and snapping at everyone who's trying to help me. I wish I could just fast forward to stage 5 and start eating, start living life again, but I can't and it's somewhat discouraging. I pray and pray that I've made the right choice but days like today make me wonder otherwise. Hopefully it will get better, for all of us. Best of luck to you and your husband, you're lucky to have such an amazing support system!

It will get better! In the interim, are you getting enough Protein? I found that Protein helped me get through my toughest days. Also stay hydrated. Seems kind of early for "Bandster Hell" but apparently you are there. Don't give up, make sure you take your Vitamins, drink plenty of Water and protein.

You are so fortunate to have a husband that will be going through this with you. You will have a support group right in your house!

I can hardly wait until I read your future post saying that you have lost 50+ lbs!

All the best to you on your journey!

Carmen we are so much alike in so many ways! I'm glad I'm not alone. My husband has awful eating habbits and weighs 150lbs. Not fair! It is almost a physical pain sometimes watching him wolf down some bad yummy looking food. Craziness!

Make sure you're getting your Protein...60-80gm minimum. I'm eating way more than that because in addition to what I eat, I'm drinking 50-75gm in 2-3 low cal, low carb Protein shakes. I'm never hungry.

The immediate postop period is so hard---it's when the, "Oh crap! This is real!" realization hits. You realize that Oreos are not an option---and that's a hard pill to swallow.

Throw in that you're all out of whack, physiologically, due to anesthesia, meds, the trauma of surgery, hormone fluctuations----and it's a very difficult, very emotional time.

It gets SO much easier. The blues will dissipate as you recover. The hunger will become manageable as you move through the phases of eating and work toward restriction.

But I know it seems, some days early on, like there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

Until then, every sandwich not eaten and every Oreo not snatched is a victory. You're doing great

I had a huge emotional dip 3 days post op and just felt like I wasn't coping. I also just wanted to chew anything so pureed a few nuts in my mouth. I'm a comfort eater so this is my danger moment when I'm depressed. The good news is that it passed and those down evenings (always after 5pm) are getting further apart. I try and keep busy until bed which has helped so much. It's a lifetime of bad habits we're trying to undo so don't be hard on yourself and be real with your beloved. I suspect a lot of people have the downers but don't want to put others off so don't say anything! I'm feeling great today and it's a good week. You will get there!!!

Not sure if I am right on this... but it's pretty hard to get 60-80g of Protein in the liquid phase... unless you can have 3-4 Protein shakes a day. I think it's doable later on, but difficult in the early days. I have been trying to get my protein up, but very difficult as my Dr says liquids for 4 wks.

Why don't you have a glass of Water or juice when you feel really hungry? That seems to help me with my hunger.... But I am with you, it's so hard to have all that yummy food that used to be our best friend around you... we'll get there. We've basically gone "cold turkey" from our addiction... it will take time for our addiction centre to adjust. HTH

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
