Push toward Onederland

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've been hovering around 203/204 for two weeks and really want to push on under 200. I would appreciate any suggestions for getting there as soon as possible. I think I have had some mental hesitancy about meeting that next goal. I don't really understand it but it's true. But I am going forward. How did you get under 200? Did you slide past it easily or struggle?

I absolutely relate to mental hesitation about meeting a goal, and was expecting it as I approached the 200 mark a few weeks back.

What I did was give myself permission to stay at 203-204 for as long as it took me to be ready for the next phase of my life as a thinner person. I kept on with my program just as I had been doing, and one day I stepped on the scale and - Onederland was mine.

It's a process, not a race. Be good to yourself, acknowledge your feelings and reservations, but don't be undone by them. You'll be just fine.

And congratulations! Isn't it perfectly elegant to have this problem instead of the weight problems you use to have?

What about it makes you nervous, do you think? There are certain milestones that are prominent in our minds, but really, it's not the number that carries great meaning. It's the big changes going on in our bodies and minds.

I remember getting on and off the scale several times when I went below 200. I wanted to make sure that 199.4 was real--and then I took a picture of the number (and my ugly winter feet). It was a milestone.

But it was also anticlimactic. There wasn't a huge change from the day before---I was the same person who needed to do the same things to stay healthy.

I guess I'm saying that it's not something to fear. It is a milestone, but it doesn't create changes that are daunting.

If you're stalled because your body is simply regrouping after losing a lot, the loss will resume, and you'll just slide into the 190s. If you're stalled because you are subconsciously self-sabotaging a little bit, you'll reach the point where you are comfortable moving on in your weight loss journey.

There is nothing wrong with you. You are just engaged in a process that involves a great deal of emotional letting go. You will do it when you are ready. Just know that there's no need for fear.

I thought I would Celebrate being in onederland more than I actually did. It was great to reach that magic number on the scale, but I found dropping 2 sizes in my jeans much more rewarding. It's funny how the number on the scale doesn't necessarily correlate to the size of your body. Hang in there and enjoy the non-scale values as well!

If your not already, excersise will help you tremendously in reaching your goal. It's made all the difference for me. Start out slow and gradually increase the intensity and/or duration. Best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
