Drinking while eating???

Recommended Posts

I have to admit I am HUGE fan of Water, ice tea, crystal light....etc...you name it I drink ALL day long. This is especially evident when I eat. Why can't we eat and drink at the same time? I was told over and over ago no, but not the "why" part. I have been banded for three weeks and now with the mushies part I still am sneaking in something to drink when I eat, not near as much as I used to. Anyone know why?

"Eating and drinking at the same time causes food to move through the digestive system a little too quickly." I got that from the surgeon's guide book I was given....

The nurse also explained to us in a class before the surgery that drinking while eating promotes belly fat... ????

I also used to drink all day long.. I could drink 10 bottles of Water easily.. plus all the sweet tea and sodas i used to have...

Now, I still drink plenty of Water, but NEVER EVER do I drink during my meals... I wait about 20 mins. after I eat to drink.. but my surgeon said to wait 30.... ????

good luck!!!

I was told it was because it washes the food on through and you lose the full feeling.

Hi

I was told to stop drinking fluids 45 min before and after each meal. Nutritionist and Surgeon say that you need that time to have your body absorb the Proteins in your meals. Plus, you dont want to fill up on Water and be hungry later on.

It is tough to do. I dont drink enough liquids, but am increasing my intake every day (stopped my diet cokes finally). I never realized that I always drink Water with my Breakfast and lunch until I tried to stop..

it's hard to do and takes lots of practice

I didn't think it would be a big deal but I'm finding it very hard.

I try to be aware of it but mindlessly I find myself picking up a glass to sip while I'm eating and sometimes I sip to make something that feels like it may get stuck go down.

I'm struggling and I think I may be defeating myself.

Tonight I don't feel banded I just feel like I'm failing on yet another diet.

Oh yes. It does hurt. Once you get tighter, you will not be drinking while you eat.

I am battling the drinking with a meal too. I didnt realize just how much I want to drink with meals. I have not reached my sweet spot yet, but am getting close. I am ready for the time when I cant drink with meals. It is amazing the rollercoaster of thoughts...did I make the right decision, I feel like I am on a diet ...hate that! blah blah blah...I hope it gets better.

give it time....dont feel discouraged please! once you reach restriction "bandste hell" will seem like a distant memory. restriction will force you to slow down, chew more, not drink and you will get to the point where the taking just one more bite will not go down at all! try to spend your evenings reading, exercising or talking on the phone. during my months of trying for restriction every time I had the urge to snack at night (oh and I am a night owl and loooove to eat at night) I would do squats or sit ups or pushups or a workout video. I guess it was "punishment" haha

pm me if you need some support! you can do it...just hang in there!!!

why even get a glass and take it to the table? at the begining I would not set myself a cup....didnt order when we went out to eat and politely decline when at someone's house. if its not in front of you while eating. you will think about the "dont's" a lot less....just a thought!

This is an easy fix. Don't put a glass of Water at your place setting.

It was hard for me at first, but I tried to work on it. I would drink whatever was in my cup before serving myself food and I wouldn't fill my cup up. At restaurants, I do order something to drink, and I try to drink all of it before the food comes.

But as others have said, once getting fills, it makes it impossible to drink while eating...and you'll learn the hard way. Starting with my last fill, I reached for my glass to take a sip because my food was a little lodged and I thought drinking would help. What a mistake that was! It hurt and made me even more lodged.

I would say to try and practice good habits now, so when you do start feeling more restricted you'll already have good habits.

I'm not sure but it's really hard for me.

I don't feel full when I eat - I just feel hurty...So if I don't have a glass of Water when I eat to wash it down it hurts a lot to get it down.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
