She's approved, I'm trying to be supportive

Recommended Posts

Hi Mykidsdad, The supportive husband does more than support the wife, as you can tell we all draw stregnth from each other, and just hearing about another supportive husband reminds me to thank God for mine. Your kind are greatly appreciated. My DH also was concerned about the clothing budget, I have clothes that Ive grown out of and I plan on shrinking into again, and some of the others I plan to wash in hot Water and dry them in the hot dryer and see what comes out, maybe some of them will shrink!

Yesterday was her pre-op visit with the Dr. He says everything looks good and that MsJoy is on track for surgery on the 28th of Dec. She's doing the 1 week liquid thing. Today was day two. Tomorrow is the make or break day. All day at home by herself...best I can do is call. I have to work. She says although her body is cleansing itself, she's really feeling weak. Any advice?

Thanks Jack. She tells me today that it was a toughie. I asked what she did and she said she just kept busy. Tomorrow the daughter will be here and the son will arrive tomorrow night. Then Christmas.....

Merry Christmas to you as well. I'm not banded yet but will be meeting my surgeon Jan 4th to discuss the whole process and to get a date for banding. I wouldn't be so ready and excited to get this if it weren't for my husband. He's behind me 100% like you are for your wife. If you only knew how much that means. Good luck on Wednesday and I'll keep your wife in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Take care and keep up the great work!

OK, leaving today to spend the night in Dallas for surgery tomorrow. She's the first one of the day. Gotta be there at 6:15 for a 7:15 OR time. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. I'll get back as soon as I can.

Guest Bekah1

Hi all,

I am seeing the nutritionist this week and trying to get a Psyc. eval. scheduled. Has anyone been through this part of the process that wants to share more about what happens?...Thanks in advance, Bekah

Bekah, we didn't have to go thru the Psych test. The insurance company took our doctor's letter of recommendation as proof of medical necessity.

Back home and MsJoy is "banded, mark of the losers sword...." (sung to the tune from that old TV show with Chuck Connors) She went in about 7:30 this morning and we had a two hour drive home. She's resting at the moment, but I'll get her up to do some walking and her breathing treatment.

You are an awesome spouse!

Right after surgery, I wanted my husband close, I even made him get in the bed next to me. My body knew it had just been through something traumatic and wanted the safety of his presence next to me. He was great about not letting me lift, and has lifted me since. SINCERE comments about how proud he is of me go along way. Asking me questions has also given me a chance to share my journey. He from the start has called this my "lapdance surgery".

Best wishes-

MsJoy and Dad, So glad to hear you guys made it home safely. How is everything going now?? Are you sick of broth yet?

Let us know how you both are doing!! And dont let her do any housework for at least 2 weeks!!! Joy, you may even need a 2 year recovery time when it comes to house work. :)

LOL Christine, you must have it in for me for some reason.... She's doing ok. Woke up this morning and had a smoothie, but it isn't sitting too well on her tummy. Gave her a phenegren and she's snoozing right this minute. Last night she got a little hungry and I made her some Cream of Mushroom Soup, then I strained all the mushrooms out of it before I served it. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
