Nervous.... Lap Band or Gastric Bypass?!

Recommended Posts

So my scheduled date is November 12. I don't know if I am just freaking out because it's becoming more real or I am just really unsure. Right from the beginning I wanted the band, but now I am wondering if gastric bypass is whats right for me. Does anyone else have those thoughts or if you have already had surgery, do you wish you would of had the bypass? I personally know 2 people who have had the bypass and they have been very successful with it. Maybe its because I personally don't know anyone that's had the band put in. ( and I "know" you guys to extent.....you know what i mean!)

I was 327 when I was banded. The reasons why I chose the band were:

1. It's reversible.

2. I have control. My band can be adjusted, and I won't have to just simply "deal" with just a smaller stomach.

3. Bypass patients will gain weight back.

4. I know a couple of people who had the bypass and they don't look too good. They look saggy. They lose weight too fast and they look saggy and sick.

5. I don't have nutritional deficiencies.

6. Lap Band patients don't have dumping syndrome (google it if you don't know what it is)

7. Surgery is minimally invasive. I have all of my organs and nothing had to be "rerouted."

8. If bypass patients want to make "adjustments" they have to have another surgery. I.e. doctors have to go in and restaple their stomach.

9. I'm sure the ladies that I know that had the bypass are not just losing fat - they are losing muscle.

10. Bypass has a higher risk of complications.

Hi there

Thanks for the information. I also had concerns as to which was "better" - I am going with the lap band but now Im 100% sure - Thanks again

I think both surgeries are acceptable. There are risks with both. See above post for bypass risks.

I have the band :

Band risks:

Erosion

Flipped port

Slips

Tubing disconnect

Tubing leak

You just need to decide what will work best for you . I too flip flopped about what i wanted.

Ask questions at the surgeons office.

I agree with all of these. I was on the fence too about which surgery i wanted, At first I wished i would have went with Gastric Bypass because its easier at the beginnging and your weight falls off. But now 6+ months post op, I am SO SO glad I went with The band, its been a life saver for me..

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
