Hi Bander92210,

I just had surgery last Tue (21st) and am still in the liquid phase. Yesterday was the first day since surgery that I've really felt hungry. Up until then I was content on the 5 protien drinks and my Water. But today I called my dr's office and was given permission to have creamed Soups. I can't tell you what a difference a warm bowl of cream of broccoli Soup made!

If you haven't already started on them maybe you could give your doc a call and see if you can have them. It really made all the difference for me.

Otherwise I'd still call them before moving on to soft foods.

Hi MellieW,

Thanks I've emailed my nutritionist to ask her about this. I'm wasn't going to move on to the soft foods unless my nutritionist tells me. I don't want to mess this up.

I did move on a few days ahead of schedule but ONLY after I got the ok from my doc...If you are feeling very hungry I highly advise talking to your doctor to see if you can move on early...Good Luck!

I have read many many times on here that folks who have long post op liquid diets and got hungry have called their NUT or Surgeon and gotten the OK to advance...

Hi,

I had my surgery 8-17-10 and i did move up a bit early so I would be able to try new things on the week end instead if a work day my weekly change would have been on tuesdays and I went to sundays. I did that on my own. I did fine to. But I went to mexico and it's hard to get f/u calls answered. So nice to get to the Soups it helps alot to feel satisfied.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
