I'm nineteen and I just got the band friday[9-24] . I'm younger than most patients getting the lab-band, and i'm sure my lifestyle is vastly different than the older groups of people getting it. The most difficult thing for me is I feel hungry but I don't want Soups, or liquids. I don't really eat that much because i have no desire to drink something. Is anyone else going/went through this?

I think everyone who has been banded has went through that as some point, regardless of age. You just want to chew something. The only thing that really helped me was sucking on a hard candy. I limited myself to 1 or 2 a day but that seemed like the only thing that really soothed me.

I was banded 5 weeks ago and I remember going through that...I just kept in my mind that I need to heal so I stuck with all the phases of my post op diet. I was self pay and there was no way I was going to waste all the money I put down just to mess up my band with in weeks of my surgery. Just keep in your mind that you need to heal and that this is just the first steps to a new you...

I remember feeling like I needed to chew something so I chewed sugar free gum. Do not advance you're diet until you're supposed to, if you follow the rules you're doc gave you, you will do fine!

And about "Head-Hunger"- this is why this is such a hard process, because now is the time you have to start training your brain to sort out what is real "hunger" and when you just think you're hungry. During this phase you really have to be mindful of your emotions and how you feel. I keep a journal to help me identify trigger behavior.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
