finding a good surgeon/clinic

Recommended Posts

hi, im new and will gratefully accept all the help i can get. if anyone was kind enough to be a buddy/mentor that would be fab!

could anyone let me know of a good surgeon or clinic that they would recommend, i dont mind if its here or abroad aslong as its safe and you felt and were safe. also has anyone used the uk s whygoabroad for their op and did it go well. i cant even get them to return my phonecalls which seems strange. any info/advice would be gratefully recieved as i ve made the decision to go ahead and the sooner the better for me and now just want to get the knowledge to go to the best place and be safe. i could really use all the advice and the benefit of peoples experiences so i go to the best place.

thanks guys x

jacqui

Hi, I can't offer too much advise on who to choose but all I can say is that I chose to stay close to home with local support and unlimited fills for 2 years with Gateway. I was banded on the 27th September 2010 by Dr Ackroyd in Sheffield, it all went really well, lovely hospital and helpful hospital staff who made me feel really comfortable. My Gateway consultant has contacted me every day since being home by telephone and talked me through the early stages. I think you have to look at all the options, I have read lots of threads where people have gone abroad and been really happy, for me I have a family and did not want to be too far away from them. I hope you find whats right for you, I am sure it will be a success whatever you choose.

Good luck...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
