Awww!!! Need help choosing a lapband dr in mexico

Recommended Posts

Dr. Ortiz banded me on March 7th I had a great experience and felt safe the whole time! I am 11 days post op and doing well and am happy I did it! Wish I would have done it sooner. The Mexican Lapband Dr's have more experience then the US Docs when it comes to the Lapband and a I know that they teach Seminars in the US to the our US Dr's. I would rather have a dr who has done a over 5,000 lapbands then a dr. who has done only 200 or so. It is a personal choice but I was happy with Dr. Ortiz and the after care was wonderful!

I am considering surgery in Mexico also. The doctors seem to care much more than anyone I have dealt with in the USA. True Results makes me feel like just a number and I get the feeling they don't care about anything but he $$$$$$$$$$. The only problem I am having is with the fills. I can't travel back to Mexico for fills. Makes me think I am just stuck using these uncaring folks here in Texas!

One big concern I would have is WHERE in Mexico. There are some areas that are literally a warzone. Research the location carefully.

Hello Bandsters,

I am new to the forum, however; I did get the lapband with Dr. Almanza-Reyes at Jerusalem Hospital 5/27/2011. So far so good. Everything went smoothly. My sister came along with me and they treated her like she was a QUEEN. The staff was awesome. The facility was small ..., but the first week of July 2011 they will be closing down for renovations to expand the hospital. I have not experienced any complications thus far. They truely laid out the red carpet!

As I stated in my earlier post many months ago - I was banded in Feb by Dr Aceves in Mexicali. Never have I been treated better in a hospital environment. If I had my choice I would never enter another Hospital in the states again. My whole trip I felt completely SAFE and comfortable, even while crossing the boarder. If going to Dr. Aceves you don't cross over in Tijuana, you cross over BY Mexicali - so basically your whole vehicle transit is in the states until you cross over. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos truly care abou the success of their patients. I am flying down next month when I will be approx 7 mo post of to get my band checked by Dr. A and Dr. C. bc my aftercare surgeon herein the US very well may have poked a hole in my tubing due to his ignorance during a fill.. idk we shall see. For those of you that know nothing about Mexico surgeons or traveling there you obviously don't have a dog in this fight - other than to just criticize other people's decisions. Real nice.

blondee they're not criticizing the doctors in Mexico any seminar you attend in the states they tell you if you dont decide to go through their facility atleast choose a center of excellence so you know for sure you'll have the very best treatment when you have your surgery.

?? not sure what point you're trying to make here?

I was refering to the people that were saying things like "I don't know why anyone would ever go to Mexico for surgery", etc.

Why Mexico. FDA had lowered the BMI in the USA and lots of surgeons are doing self pay for around 9 - 10,000 dollars, with a BMI of 30 or more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
