Filling, long-lasting foods

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I had my band June 6th (in the UK, where I live), and have had two fills. Everything is going very well. I've lost about 20 pounds.

I get discomfort if I don't chew properly, so I'm working on that.

Which foods do you guys find keep you full and not hungry for a long time? I'm finding I generally eat less now, but am not sure what the best solid fibrous foods are... I still get hungry quite quickly I think.

Thanks!

John

I found the best food for me is chili - Beans and meat and lotsa Protein seems to do the trick. I could live on chili...LOL

I also like sloppy joe meat with some shredded cheese on it....YUMMO! Seems like the more Protein I can pack into a meal the better I do....I rarely have any room for anything else after the protein.

soo funny!! I make a cauldron of chili every week for myself!!! I use ground turkey most of the time, and top it with some cheese and chopped sweet onion......yum!!!

Chili is my go-to food everytime. It's easy to make, it reheats well and it tastes better the next day. Now I busily look for new chili recipes. So far I've tried the usual red chili, white chili and a turkey chili with pumpkin.

I really need to include wholegrains to feel full for a long time. They fill that stomach space (my band isnt tight) and give me lasting satisfaction - Protein and vegies just doesnt cut it for me. I need to add bread, Pasta or rice.

Luckily that's not affected my weight loss at all.

I've tried oatmeal. It will only last 2-3 hours, and I become hungry again.

I too have chili all the time. I love Wendy's and Safeway's the best. Keeps me full and satisfied for a long time.

eggs last the longest for me, then beef or pork. I also agree with the posters above; as a meal, chili definitely keeps me full, and is relatively easy for me to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
