Banded but don't work out

Recommended Posts

LOL!!! I just wanted to know because just like you I am also a mom with a full time job. Yes I know that I shouldn't use that as an excuse which I am not because this is what I wanted and now that I have it I've got to make it work for me. Since nothing else really helped me the lap-band was my last option beside getting my mouth wired shut lol

I hear ya...as a mother I think our tendancy is to take care of everyone else first....which is how I got into the shape I was in the first place! But it is hard to find time to do things just for me...and I have to decide what is more important....can I bounce on the trampoline with the girls for ten minutes and create memories one evening instead of unloading the dishwasher or folding clothes? MUCH funner to play with the girls! So I just try and do as much as I can...whenever I can.

I have a question does everyone that has the LAP-BAND® work out? I have a friend that got the LAP-BAND® done a few years ago and she never worked out but lost a lot of weight.

I am down over 150 lbs and NEVER work out. I didn't say I seldom work out. I NEVER work out.

I may have to gain that 150+ pounds back and do it right the next time :smile2:

That being said, it is all semantics. I exercise daily but nothing I would call a work out. A little stretching and walk at least 5 miles in the course of the day.

I never work out. I reckoned I was too heavy to go running and never liked doing much else.

However I actually feel, at my first goal of 60% excess weight lost, like excercising at last. Partly because if I went running now I would not fear falling over so much.

Whether I actually get round to it...well, just don't hold your breath!

I guess everyone is different I just want to get to the point where I feel good about myself. I do have my lazy moments but I am not going to let that stop me now. This time around it's all about ME!!! :smile2:

Well, since I have started to work out I just feel better point blank! I love the energy that it gives me! I'm in love with it!!!:smile2: Plus my butt and legs looks better and you can't get that from just sitting at home. I have gotten two compliments about being sexy this month from men and that's more than I have gotten all year!! LOL!

I didn't work out much at all during most of my weight loss. After about 50 lbs. down, I started cycling once in a while, but not regularly. I had a lot of foot problems that didn't start to get better until I was under 200 lbs. In June after I had already exceeded my final weight loss goal, I started running with the Couch to 5K program, just finished a few days ago and am now training for a half marathon. I don't really like working out unless I have a goal other than weight loss.

Take it slow. Start out by walking the neighborhood and just pick up the pace every few days. You'll be amazed at the people and things in your neighborhood that you've missed.

The thing about loosing weight is that it just becomes easier to do just about everything. Prior to surgery I was dealing with a major knee problem (now getting special joint shots to deal with the pain); and a ENORMOUS planters wort (if you've never had one you can't imagine how painful). Going on a presurgery diet and getting treatment for these other issues made being active soooo much easier.

Outside having an excerise routine; being active is so much better than not. And by being active I mean feeling like you can park your car and walk the 50 yards to the door of the mall. One of the reasons I decided to have the surgery was I was concern that I was physically miserable at 40, what would I feel like at 60?

Anyway, I would make a point of making the most out of your everyday activities. When you go to the store/mall park far away; choose the stairs; use the upstairs bathroom in your house.

I'd love to know more about the waterproof mp3 player. I was doing Water aerobics, but, the class is too "old" for me.

Thanks, and good luck everyone!

Check out Otter Box they make waterproof covers for your ipod and headphones. i swim five times a week and LOVE my Otter box it really helps at taking your mind off the actual exercise.

All good ideas. Before I lost my weight, I'd complain if my husband didn't park the car as close to the handicapped spaces as possible (meaning as close to the door as possible). After surgery, I started parking at the far end of parking lots. Now it's habit. I take stairs instead of elevators and can do 3 flights with no problem. Prior to surgery, one flight and my heart was pounding so hard I thought I was going to die of a heart attack and my bad knee was complaining almost as loudly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
