On Pre-op Diet, Have to Attend Dinner Party! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days into pre-op Protein Shake diet, surgery date Oct. 6th. We have to go to my hubby's brother's 50th wedding anniversary and 70th birthday (same day) this coming weekend and the host says she is having taco dinner catered. What am I to do for this situation? We will go, but I need suggestion for handling this.

I am doing fine on the Protein Shakes, & sf Jello not hungry at all. :)

Can you say that you ate before you went, or that your tummy isn't feeling well? That way people might leave you alone about not eating. And definitely do drink your Protein shake right before you go.

If worst comes to worse and you find yourself partaking, stick with meat and veggies/ no chips, tortillas, or dessert. Then get right back on track at the next meal.

If it isn't a sit down, just carry a plate with some lettuce and other non-tempting items and do your thing. I did a superbowl party during my pre-op. People there knew I was on it, so there was no pressure. But I carried around a Water bottle and the people who didn't know never noticed I wasn't eating.

You can also say that you are on a special meal plan due to an upcoming medical procedure and leave it at that, if anyone asks.

If it is sit down, it will be more challenging, in that case, I'd go with the previous poster's suggestion and say my stomach was off that day.

Last suggestion, call your surgeon's office, explain, and ask if there is anything you might be able to eat. He may allow a green salad and lean meat. Obviously no cake, but at least you could enjoy and not feel guilty.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
