Can you prepare it like a side dish like rice? It does not get stuck or thick like rice? It seems like something that absorbs other flavors around it. Will look for it. Interesting.

It's really great cold as well - with the edamame, a little grated apple and a light soy vinagarette - even using your leftovers from the day before.

I make it with chicken broth, onions, garlic, red bell pepper diced, and polska kielbasa diced into cubes. It is so good.

I was hearing a lot about quinoa, too. Then I looked at the nutrition label...1 cup has 222 calories, 8 grams of Protein and 39 carbs. I think it's a better choice that rice or Pasta because it does contain some protein (not tons in my book), but don't forget about those carbs if you are going to eat it!

I love quinoa but have not eaten it since I was banded.

Here is how I prepare it

In one pan I sautee one diced yellow onion, one diced red bell pepper, 5 pressed cloves of garlic, and one polska kielbassa cubed into small poeces. I set this aside and add this mix once the quinoa is ready.

In the other pan I put the quinoa, 2 cans of chicken broth, and some Water and cook until it is ready.

I also make quinoa as a side to mexican food and sautee corn, yellow onion, and garlic and set aside. I cook the quinoa with a can of chicken broth, a jar of salsa, and Water as needed. Once that is cooked I add the corn/onion sautee to the quinoa and voila.

Again, I have not eaten this since it is a carb since I was banded but it sure is good!

now my label of quinoa is for one serving size of 2.6 TBS (such and odd # haha) and it is less than 200 calories 24 carbs and 16 g of protein....interesting the different labels....i am not doing "low carb" persay, but Pasta, bread and rice gets stuck every time I try to eat it....so I have cut those carbs out, but not becasue of my "diet".....i was getting really bored with my dinners so in my look for something different I found quinoa. i've lost 60 lbs since may so I am quite happy with the progress....35 more to go!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE quinoa. I fix it just like rice and use it in similar dishes. Quinoa with corn, black Beans, grilled chicken and some other goodies can be a great "Mexican" side dish or burrito filler. My favorite is a "Mediterranean" style with black olives, grape tomatoes, feta cheese, cucumber and a tiny splash of greek dressing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
