Do you stop losing when too tight?

Recommended Posts

I've had 3 fills in total. I lost 15 pounds in 6 weeks between fill 2 and 3. Fill 3 was just about 2 weeks ago and I've lost NOTHING (not even inches)... i'm eating right and exercising. I run 45 minutes at least 4 days a week. No weight loss no matter what. Eating has been a real challenge. I can hardly get a single scrambled egg down without sliming it all back up. No matter what i eat it's a challenge. I know there can be re-adjustment periods and plateaus but I'm just wondering what others have experienced. Thanks!

Too tight or too loose or no band at all doesn't cause weight loss.

Your diet and exercise is what causes weight loss.

That being said; not eating enough can throw your body into starvation mode and it will hang onto every calorie it can. It sounds as if you are too tight and not getting enough to eat.

If it were me, I'd ask them to remove a half cc and see if that helps.

Btrieger is right, not enough calories can stall weight loss.

Also, if you're so tight that all you can get down are "slider" foods which are typically higher calorie, that can also stall weight loss.

The third thing that can be happening is that you might be at a plateau, where weight isn't moving, but your body is reshaping.

But I think Btrieger has the right suggestion.. get a small unfill. I've had a .2 unfill before. 1/2 cc might be too much, but your doc will have the best estimate of the amount that should come back out. You want enough removed to help you feel better, but not so much that you lose appetite suppression.

Good luck.

eggs can give some people problems. If you're having them in the morning, make sure you drink a cup or two of liquid to start your day first. Tightness can come from being dehydrated and in the morning you basically are.

Try other foods than eggs and see if they give you the same problems. I've had a too tight band and too loose band and both slowed my weight loss. A tight band for me caused me to eat foods that went down easy (slider foods of little nutritional value). Too loose and I could eat too much.

Your body may just be catching up from all the changes you've been through in the past 3+ months. Just keep eating healthier and doing your exercising and the scale with move again. It's just a blip on the radar screen.

You can stop losing when you're too tight but it's a result of not being able to eat enough...or eating slider foods. That's what happened to me. My weight loss stopped completely. I finally went in for an unfill and have been slowly (cuz I've had a hard time getting back on plan) losing weight...which is better than nothing or worse, gaining.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
